I heard last year that Aguila was supposed to begin mfg. the 5mm Rem cartrige. Anyone hear of this, or know of any mfg. making this round?

Haven't heard that...and i listen for a couple of people who still own them (and still shoot them from small ammo stashes). Is possible...but kind of doubful that anyone would gear up for that odd-sized round (not just bullet size, the case isn't a match for anyother production round).

There is a conversion to a centerfire round for this little cartridge. You've got to send your rifle to the company whom does this and use their cases and a set of reloading dies designed for it.
I guess this would be the way to go to shoot some of the existing rifles, but why? there are so many good center fire rifles out there and with the addition of the 17 hmr and the fine balistics available from so many good rifles it would seem to make more sense to go to a modern chambering. Put that old Remington 5mm away and get a little CZ 452 in the 17 hmr and never look back.

Good advice, Bob. I bought a new Remington model 592 in 5mm Rimfire Magnum in 1973 and still have it. I checked into converting it to the centerfire 5MM Craig but it is very expensive. So are the reloading dies. Bullets aren't a problem any more since it shoots the same diameter bullet as the .204 Ruger.
Ballistics are impressive. The Remington 38 grain "Power-Lokt" HP at 2100 FPS MV yields an ME of 372 FT.LB. That's about double the .17 HRM.
I shoot 15 or 20 rounds a year with it and am down to about 5 fifty-round boxes. It almost takes the fun out of shooting it when ammo cost $1.25 to $1.50 per round. I think that's ample justification to buy a new CZ 452 in .17 HRM.
How's the full stock 452 shoot?

First photo is grip cap. 2nd photo is rimfire bolt and converted centifire bolt. 3rd photo was taken just outside back door.

All the CZ's seem to shoot well. I've got a 452 Lux and it's one of the most accurate 22 I've ever owned. I've never had one of the 17's, but I understand folks are getting good accuracy from them.
I put one of Eric Brooks 14 buck trigger kits in my 452 and the trigger breaks at 1.5 pounds just like ice. You might check out Eric's site he has an excellent FAQ section on the 452 that covers a lot of accurizing questions. Out of the box mine will shoot darn near inch groups at a hunred yards if the wind isn't blowing. Here's Eric's website.
