You know red dot, with one of the camo spray kits from Brownell's it only takes about 20 minutes to do it yourself. A kit will last for two or three years depending upon how rough you treat a rifle and the results are excellent and cost is nil.

I've several friends whom are dedicated yote hunters. They mask off the scope lens and spray a whole rifle, barrel, action and scope. If during the season they get a little rub wear they will touch it up.

Personnely I just don't want to spray paint a rifle, but's that's just me. The folks whom believe they need a camo rifle look on it as a tool and the camo makes it a more effective tool.

Only camo gun I own is a Mossberg 835 that came that way. I've got to admit It's a nice looking gun. I'm kinda afraid to set it down in the woods though, might never find it again.

Bob,

D&%$ straight!! I can't even find myself in the woods if I wear camo clothing!! :-)

And, you're absolutely right about the camo kits from Brownells (or elsewhere). There is NOTHING magic about creating a camo pattern on a rifle stock. Don't let anyone fool you about that.

Get the kit, lay out your pattern, draw around your stock on a large piece of paper with a magic marker (old newspaper or an opened-up grocery sack), and give it a shot. Heck, you can probably buy the spray paint cans at MalWort or some other place.

I just sprayed 2 of my synthetic stocks with Krylon Fusion paint. Supposedly it is made for plastic. I used the textured formula, then painted one black and one olive over the texture with Krylon camo paint. On the black one, I misted it with a dark gray from about 2 feet away-kind of like a cheap version of the spiderweb pattern of HS Presicion!! I also took the time to sand off the mold marks to make them dissappear. The texture will make it easy to hold on to.

moe show us a pix of those stocks if you can. I'd like to see how they came out.

This is my Mossberg turkey gun. I wear some camo when I'm calling yotes and turkeys in the spring, but have found that you could hunt yotes with a striped prison outfit and it wouldn't make a lot of difference if you just stay still.

here's one for ya;

It's a Baikal model 18sumthin, that I was given by a dealer I know who could not sell the darn thing for love-nor-money.

It's a 12 ga. full choke, 28" barrelled single that is as cheezy as they come. The stock was made of something that resembles pine [!!!!] and proceeded to crack after 100 shots.... Gen-U-Whine Rusky kwalitee:rolleyes:

Anywhoo, I filled the crack with Gorilla glue, and it looked hideous, so off to the local hardware store. A can of grey-green, some primer grey and flat black created this camo pattern. I had no set template, just did my best Piccaso!!!!:D

I'll attempt at some pictures:

VZ-24 in 338-06 with a $50 Corelite stock. After painting, it looks more like a $60 stock!! Krylon OD camo. Thinking about misting this one with black.

Here is a closeup of the stock to see the texture.

Remington 721 in 300 H&H. This is a takeoff from a M700 BDL. I had to Acraglas around the bolt handle notch to straighten out the curved handle channel for the straight 721 handle. Looks pretty good. Crylon Ultra flat black w/gray overspray. Wally world was out of the semi-flat black.

Not too good closeup of the 721 stock to show the gray overspray. From a few feet is looks like the whole thing is a medium gray, but when you get close you can see the gray "dots". I tried to find a spray nozzle that was used so it would not make such a fine spray, but didn't have one.

I have a feeling they both will be susceptible to nicks and wear along sharp edges, but as long as Krylon makes paint, touch up will be no problem!!

I think you did a fine job. That 300 H&H makes a dandy elk and deer gun at least out west here. Very slick.
