I was in the local Big 5 buying some cheap ammo for Dove season and noticed that they had a 336A on sale for $334. I couldn't pass it up as I had been wanting one for a long time. Well I took the plunge and laid it away. One of my buddies gave me a 3x9 Burris compact a while back so I ordered a Leupold one piece base and turn-in rings. I also ordered a hammer spur, a Pachmayr decel pad and super sling +. I would like to know if I forgot anything and also the proper breakin procedure for the barrel.
Thanks

Sounds like you have a real nice setup to me. I don't know how compact the Burris scope is but I had a Millet compact scope that was so short it needed some adjustments to the base to get the ring close enough together for the scope to fit in them. You might want to take a look at the lenght of the base and distance between the rings and make sure the scope has an area that far apart where the rings will fit on it.
I'm no benchrest shooter so I'd say give it a good all over cleaning when you get it home. Get all the manufacturing gunk and shavings out of it. Then take it out and shoot it a bunch.

Welcome to the forum Hoghunter. Sounds like your going to have a nice setup for this fall. Only thing I can add is you might want to look at Marshall's fire lapping kit for your 30-30. I've used it for several revolvers and it made cleaning so much easier besides making everything I've used it on more accurate.
This also takes care of the break in question.
I use the super slings on most all of my rifles and am really pleased with them.

Congratulations on your new rifle, and don't get too worked up over break-in. As already noted, clean it up good when you get it home, then go shoot it. Odds are you're going to be thoroughly pleased, and after that all you'll need to worry about is normal maintenance. If you are one of the very rare unfortunates who discovers some problem with how it shoots -- well, that'll be the time to look at how to fix the problem, not before.

I forgot to mention it's a 30-30. I have some KG-2 and KG-12 that I use one my new Savage 06 (It shoots unbelievable but coppers up real fast so far, rough bore I guess) so I will use it on the 30-30. I also had the forethought to order the extended for ring for the shorty scope.

I would have dispensed with the recoil pad as not needed. I'd get me a few ammo pouches for my belt or sling and a good supply of ammo. Maybe a hard case, if you dont have one.
Oh, and some simple reloading tools - youre gonna like it and want to shoot it a lot.

The reasons for the Decel pad were two fold. One to set the length of pull proper for me and 2nd I have had several lever guns before (2 pre 64 94 Winnies both 30-30's ( steel butt plates, ouch), 2 1895 marlin 45-70's one and early straight stock model, man what a kicker!, A marlin 1894 44 mag, fun to shoot but no range to speak of, for out here anyway and last a model 71 .348 Winchester (steel butt plate also and again ouch!, what a gun and what recoil). I'm older now and just want to enjoy myself with this one. I would like to get a hold of a 35 rem eventually, a lot of wild hogs around here that just need to hide in my freezer.

Well you make a great point. The 45-70 and .348 have gotta be enough to make anyone recoil shy and you made an even better comment with this sentiment:
I just want to have fun.
Get a .35. You will not regret it and THAT puppy really comes out with careful handloading. If you do stout load the .35, get the recoil pad - it'll help.

How about bullets, primers and powder for reloading? I used Cascade Cartridge primers and IMR 3031 years ago, are things still the same? I haven’t seen the new Hornady bullets anywhere as yet. I don't think we'll see the secret powder for a longer time than the bullets. And does anyone use the Lee Factory crimp die? If so did you have to adjust the powder load?
