We just picked up a new Leica Rangemaster CRF 1200, yesterday,
to use at a shoot we are having on Sunday. We’ve used a Bushnell
Trophy Laser Range Finder in the past but a few weeks ago
we tried out a friend’s Leica, and really liked it.

The major difference that we noticed, right away, was the ‘scan
mode’ that gave us a continuous reading while scanning moving
targets! Obviously, that’s the way to go for game!

Question: Has anyone owned/used the Leica 1200 for an extended
period of time - we’re wondering about the battery life - well,
projected battery life, while out in the field. We’re going to be
using it up on a ranch (east San Diego County) and there’s bound
to be some small moving targets scampering about!

... anything else that we might want to know about?

Thanks!

Yeah, when the 1200 came out, I swapped my Leica 800 for the 1200 model.
Battery life? A long, long time. I'm still on the original battery !
An extra battery doesn't weigh much, or take up much space, so I think I'd take one with me, if I were you- but one will be sufficient.
One trick with I have found with the 1200: the laser beam is a very narrow one- which it must be to measure accurately at long ranges. Holding the laser on the target can be hard sometimes, so resting the rangefinder on something, just like you would a rifle for a long shot, helps. Or mount it on a tripod if you are sitting in one place.

I noticed that just fooling around with it up and down the street. You're right,
and thanks for reminding me. I'll rig up some shooting sticks for it.
