What is the value of a used controlled round feed late model M70 long action?
A gunsmith using a bore scope confirmed today that in the process of removing a stuck bore snake another 'smith ruined the barrel of my .25-06 Model 70 Classic Sporter. The gun is in excellent condition but obviously the only thing someone would want to buy is the action.
Thanks!

Why not rebarrel it? I am not sure of the value of just the action but it would be something others would want to have. Have you considered putting a new barrel on the gun?

I know its rediculous but I had wanted a Classic Sporter in .25-06 for so long that the idea of it not being "just like the picture" really bugs me. Again, I know that doesn't make sense.
If it was any other rifle I wouldn't hesitate to do that but I think with this one I'm going to sell it, learn to accept my loss (I'm not there yet!) and find an identical replacement.

Let me know if you find a value and how much you would want for it. If not me, I will check with others I know to find someone to buy it from you. Will this be action only or the whole gun with ruined barrel?

It would be the entire gun, with box.

If you settle on a price, I'd bet it goes quickly!!!

When I told one of my friends it'll be for sale he offered to buy the rifle the next time we see one another.
Then, when I told a casual friend I ran into at the range about it he offered to buy it too.
Of course, getting people to part with their money is often harder than it would seem.

You know you can have that barrel rebored for a pretty reasonalbe price, Go to something like a 6.5-06 or a 280 Remington or. Won't change the barrel one bit.

Me thinks faucettb's option is the best for you. Is likely the cheapest too!
