I thought I had read here somewhere that Walmart was no longer selling handgun ammo but the ones near me (Ann Arbor Michigan) still do.
I was at Cabella’s and they had what I thought was a good price on Winchester s&w.40 at 19.99 for 100. Walmart has the same ammo for 17.97, possibly 16.99 up in Lansing but I won’t know for certain until this Sunday.
So…. Just thought I would pass along that at least some Walmarts still sell handgun ammo.

The Walmart here still has guns and ammo. I also heard that K Mart was going to stop selling guns but the rack was full when I was in there recently. Might be a local thing.

IMHO, more likely a politically correct thing. . .

My local Walmart is still selling guns and ammo. From the press release I read only some of the stores were going to stop selling guns and ammo.

Well, the neighborhood where I shop walmart probably sells more guns and ammo than anything else ;-)
I am now wondering if other stores that sell ammo like Dunhams and Kmart would match prices against walmart?

Selection is limited for hand gun ammo at our local Wally World store but they still have .38,357,45...No matter though I tend to support a local gun shop with my business.

alas, where I live a "local gun shop" is walmart, kmart, cabellas......etc.
My gun range sells reloads at the same price as new at Cabellas and 2 bucks more than Walmart.

Man, that's terrible. I mean, they must be getting the cases for free, so why can't they sell it cheaper?

I don't know why the reloads cost as much or more than new. They are some low lead stuff as it is an indoor range. I have to shoot their stuff at the range so I don't mind buying it but they sell it 100 loose in a box.
For storage at home I like the way Remington packs them in bricks of 50. Just seems more tidy that way for long term storage.
A few months ago the Walmart in Lansing had 100 for one buck less than the one I was at a few days ago. I wonder if they still do. If so, I may buy a few boxes to keep for the end of the world as I hear that is this December???

Walmart had announced that they would stop selling guns on approximately a third of their stores. Several of their stores here in the St. Louis area did remove guns from their shelves. However, they still have ammunition at those stores.
Just prior to that, they had already cut some of their ammunition items. In particular, I can no longer find Federal Premium (aka Hydra-Shock) at Walmart. They are pretty much down to Winchester and Remington ammunition.

Wally world still sells ammo here, but I've been reloading most of the stuff I shoot, I haven't bought new stuff in at least 8 months.

Well I went to the Walmart in Lansing and they were the same price as the one down here so I guess the ammo just went up a dollar in a few months.
Here is the breakdown of prices. As you can see.....I hope Walmart continues to sell it in the 100 round boxes.
All prices I found are for Winchester 40SW:
Walmart - 17.99 (100 count box)
Local Gun range = 19.99 (100 count of reloads)
Dick's sporting Goods = 10.99 ( 50 count box)
Gander Mountain - 24.99 (100 count box)
Next time I am near the Walmart I will pick up several boxes just in case they change their minds and stop stocking it!
** This has been a public announcement by me **

My wife works at wal-mart and the way I understand it they were going to stop sell guns in the stores that had low gun sales and keep selling in the rest of them. Personally I don't buy from wal-mart unless I have to because of they the way they try to under cut the local buisnesses to get them to close up shop and then jack their prices back up once they have cornered the market. Thats just my opinion and now I will shut up. Jesse

I went to my local Walmart last night to check prices on a couple different guns and found out they had remodeled and moved the sporting goods department and took out the gun cases. Asked a manager and he said that they are in the process of remodeling all their stores and taking out the gun cases because "it is too much trouble" selling guns. They still had ammo, but I did not look at the prices on it.

Like Jesse James said above, Some stores are still selling while others are not. I don't know if it's a regional thing or a city vs rural thing. In my neck of the woods down here they still are, but there are a lot of hunters. I would like to know how this decision was made.

I asked the guy behind the counter at our last of three Wally Worlds to sell guns if they were going to lose their guns as well, he said that 1000 of the 2500+ stores were going to retain their gun sales, that was all he told me, as to were, when, and why he didn't elaborate.
I did notice that they have DRASTICLY reduced the amount of ammo on hand.
