I have a T/C Black Diamond 50 cal. It is very hard to load. After the second round I have to pound in the next round. Does anyone have any sabot/bullet combo's that work well with this rifle? It is also not very accurate with the sabots I am using. They are Hornady Sabots with the XTP bullets. These wor well in my cousins T/C, but not mine. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Gismo

I had a very hard time loading a first or second shot in my T/C G2 .45 cal. Had to be a complete cleaning for a second shot. Powerbelt bullets slip down easy, I can actually get 3 shots without a pass down the barrel. I am using Jim Shockey Gold and a Rem. primer. Shoots under one inch at 50 yards

I tried power belts with the same results. There was someone on here who knows the answer, just can't remember who it was.

Try a different powder, such as 777 or APP(assuming you're shooting pyrodex/goex etc.). These 'low residue' powders will aid in 2nd shot loading. Also, try T/Cs new easy loading shockwaves, or perhaps powerbelts. Kleanbore primers are light on the flash and help keep things a little cleaner. I recommend you don't go higher than a max of 120grain charge. I'm betting either 90 or 110gr will be the sweet spot. Remember to keep some pre-saturated, and dry patches on hand, as a few seconds to swab a bbl will make loading a lot easier.

Triple 7 fffg will get you a more complete burn. You will need to swab between shots using sabots no matter what. One spitpatch both sides and one dry patch, load and fire. TC Shockwaves in 200gr or 250gr should shoot great in your barrel, or try
XTPs but with Harvester Crushed Rib Sabots. These sabots are a smaller diameter and load easier. I hate powerbelts. If you want to shoot concicals try Hornady Great Plains bullets or custom cast all lead concicals

I guess I am a little old fashioned. I am used to the old round ball and patch and thought this new wave of muzzleloaders would be easier, but I guess not. When I hunt and need a second shot really fast, I don't have time to wipe the bore out first. I was using 777 and the new Clean Bore primer with no help at all. Guess if nothing better happens with this rifle, I'll just go back to the old way. Easier for me and seems to be more accurate with the cap and ball also. Thanks for your help anyway.

When I was shooting my Rem 700 ML I finally gave up sabot's. I found the minni balls from Hornedy or the cast improved Minni from Lee worked the best and was easy to load and very accurate.

Surprise was Remington Patched balls shot very well in this quick twist gun. I was using 777 and Rems felt pad under the minie balls with 125 grains of 777 it would put three shots into about an inch and a half.

I must have tried a dozen different sabot loads before becoming disgusted with them.

Thanks Bob, You and skamnaiac both mentioned the Hornady Bullets. I might have to give them a try before I give up. Do you have to put any type of patch between the powder and bullet? Never shot those so I don't know.

The problem with sabots is that no lube is used to keep the fouling soft. I just shoot patched balls now and have no problem with second or 10th shot for that matter, but my rifle is a 1 in 48" twist. A friend that has a Remington inline gave up sabots and now uses the 250g Lee REAL bullet, and claims that it shoots good and has no problem with fallow up shots. I have used sabots but hated the clean up, and plastic has no place in a muzzleloader anyway, IMHO.

I shoot Powerbelts in front of two 50 gr. pyrodex pellets in an Encore. I have never had any problem in reloading the gun. As a matter of fact, I can easily shoot five shot groups without doing any cleaning at all between shots.
Now, I will admit that this is not the most accurate load I have found for the gun. However, the 6 dead deer in the last 5 years proves that it is more than accurate enough for me. Minute of deer is more important to me than MOA.
I use the 295 gr bullets.

Another vote for the Lee cast Minie Ball. Loads easy, shoots great, hits hard.
The mold costs 20$
Hard to argue with...

I'll agree on that Jack. .58cal Lee 500gr Minnie Ball with lube grooves atop 60gr of ffg BP. 200-300 yards shoot as many as you like all day...
Got my vote.

Go to MMP sabots.com, tell them the trouble you're having, they'll fix you up with an easier loading sabot than you're now using. The XTP's are great bullets and usually very accurate and hard hitting. Understand, there is no set size for muzzleloading barrels, so you'll run into loading problems that will drive you nuts. You can have 5 different 50cal rifles and only a few will have the same bore diamiter. MMP has sabots to solve these problems, you should NEVER have to hammer your bullet down the bore, and like the other folks told you, swab the bore between shots. When out hunting, the right sabot bullet combo will load easily if you need another shot, without needing to swab the bore. Hopes this helps you out!!

T/C maxi and mini balls work very well, in fact they are probably my favorite. They are prelubed with 1000 natural lube, easy to load on repeat shootig, very accurate in all twist barrels. Owning ten smokepoles from precussion, to flintlock to in-lines, they work. Stay with a slightly lower grain bullet when using them for game up to deer size. Personally I don't care for the pellets they have failed me on several occassions. In either 45cal or 50 cal barrels I only use 80 to 90 grains of FFF powder. It burns faster, leaving less residue in barrel, and has produced my best results. Round balls work just as good in fast twist barrels as in medium twist barrels, from 28 to 48. If using the round ball load, I use .440 for 45cal and .490 for 50 cal. combined with .015 prelubed ticking patch over 80 to 90 grains of fff powder. You should get at least 8 to 10 repeat shots without any cleaning.

Well, I tried the T/C Maxi Hunters, and they load great, but accuracy stinks. Nothing better than 4" groups at 50 yards. I would expect better at 100 yards. I have tried 4 or 5 bullet types and even got the 777 powder this time working up loads 5 grains at a time. No luck. This is the 3rd inline that did not shoot for me. I will stick to my Lyman Great Plains. It will outshoot all of the inlines I have tried, and thats with my Lymans iron sights. I hate cleaning them, but al least I know they will shoot for me.

What dia is a .50 cal pistols bullet, and do they make a HBWC for it. Reason why I ask is I used to have a TC seneca in .36 which would shoot .358 dia HBWC with heavy loads, just barely caught the lands on the way down loaded real easy and you could shoot all day without cleaning. Don't know if the HBWC is available in that size but it might be worth researching.

Try this Gismo, put a felt wad between the powder and the maxi hunter, also understand this, different weight of maxi hunter will shoot differently according to your gun's rate of twist. If nothing seems to work, contact T/C, and tell them the problem you're having, they will either have you send the gun in for exam, or give some loads to try. T/C's guns are noted for being accurate.
