Bought a new Redfield Spotting Scope - fixed 25 power with a 60mm lens. It's just over a foot long, weighs about a pound, and is rubber armored (water proof). The only adjustment is for focus at different distances. I'm very pleased with the clarity and low light level performance. At dusk I was watching a flock of turkeys feeding on a hillside about a mile away. I could clearly count the number of birds, determine their relative size, and see their red heads as they struted in and out of a corn field. I picked this up new on eBay for about 1/4 the price the Nikon XL spotters are going for.

I'd like to pick up a 1/4-20 strap holder that screws into the tripod mount hole on the bottom of the scope body so I can hang it around my neck. Anyone know where to find such a gaget? Camera store?

1/4-20 is the standard thread size for camera tripods, so a camera store is a likely place to look.

I would imagine that a camera store will have what you want, but if they don't, I'd get some 1" or 3/4" flat strap and punch a grommet through it and use your tripod knob/bolt to secure it to the strap. 1 lb?!! That's a light spotter!
