I became "accidentaly horizontal" last Wednesday. Blew out my knee. Sadly, no alcohol involved. Might have hurt less. Moose hunting is out for this season :( Got a little of that follicle regression going and now dancing is out. Time to start working on my liquid grain storage...
Sorry to hear that, Michael - know where there's a slightly used knee brace you can use! :D

$2000.00 for a knee brace I only wore 3 months is redicilous. I'm just glad that the Government paid for it. Of course when the knee is shattered, I guess anything that works is welcome. Get better soon Michael, and maybe you won't miss all the season. Did my hunting from a golf cart last season. Hope I can get by without it this year. Knee hurts like blazes when it gets cold. Cover on golf cart and small propane heater worked quite well last season.
Lee -
Went to the gunrange for some personal shooting today. Went to staple a target down low on the target frame and decided it would be easier to kneel down to do it. Worked fine until I tried to get up - durn'd right leg/knee had absolutely no strength in it to get me up. Had to grab the target frame and pull myself up until the left leg could be engaged.
The RO that repairs frames was shooting today also, so I went over and thanked him for making my frame extra strong! :p

I still can't get down on one knee yet. Accident was 03 Sept. 2005.

I got the radiologists report today. Torn ACL, Bone bruise, Torn lateral meniscus in two places. Everything else is solid still. Yayyyy.
I can't see myself stopping now with winter coming so the garage project goes on. Picking up the shingles for the shop roof tomorrow. Shingling Sunday. I figure I need a place to convalesce and reload. I'll have to rig a pulley system to haul the archery target back up to the window to pull arrows. Afterwards, open the fridge and work on my personal liquid grain storage system.
Tomorrow AM I see the Doc to talk about cutting. yippee.

Ken will sell you a slightly used knee for a good price... :D
Man.... I can't see shingling on a sore knee. That would have to be sheer torture... only thing that would hurt worse is if you were doing it with the ball joint of your foot injured.
Time to hire someone!
Nope, Mike -
My knee is taking me hunting here in about a month. Wife and doctor smirk, but I'm going! Probably the last elk tag I'll see in this state, the way the draw is!

Shouldn't they give extra preference points to guys that hunted woolly mamoths
Only if they still use the stone point spears! :D

Wooley Mammoths, Sabre toothed tigers and cave bears Oh my! What was it like hunting them with a rock or spear?
Isnt the PC term for aged, Generationally advanced? ;)
I'll have to pass on that knee. Im sure Ken took very good care of it Mike.
The consensus so far on the knee is this;
Go on vacation to Mexico, come back in, talk to the Doc about arthoscopy to clean up the cartilage as it appears that the ACL has been torn since 1982 and adhered to the PCL giving some proprioception to fire the muscles. Soooo, the big concerns are the bone bruise taking 3 to 6 months to heal and how much cartilage I may lose.
No full contact, no jumping, no rotational stresses, no mountain climbing, get off it when it hurts, ice and ibuprophen.
The shop roof is only 4 1/2 squares and I can do that in a day and a half even with a bad knee. Aren't nailguns great? :)
Oh, my aching back!

Got a bum left knee and a bad right foot! Give me the knee anytime. Had sugery on both and the foot just will not heal, been 11 months and no improvement, just crippling pain.

Hammer and roofing nails, old-school style. :p It takes longer....Michael is wise to use a nailer in that fickle Alaska fall weather.

I am familiar with that technique :) just did a roof on tuesday and we put a couple on by hand while the nailer was on a diff part of the roof
