Don't know why but not all of the bucks rub the velvet off at the same time.
These bachelor bucks are probably brothers but one is more aggresive than the other.
I was told by a knowledgeable sort that if they stay in the velvet through the season that they will not rut.
I don't know, I've only seen one that was in velvet during the rut.
Anyway, thought it was interesting.

Here was the last buck that came in. He's going to look real good with his neck all swollen up in November

See ya got a new play purty, tpv - with so many feeders, you'll go broke trying to rig up on each of them.

Had the last venison roast last night from last year's hunt. Sure need to refill the larder.

I finally got my pictures to post. Look out now-

If you're out of venison, I think you know the way by now.
Lotsa good bucks this year.
I hope your leg is doing better, Ken

My deer have lost all their velvet over the last 10 days. Our deers antlers won't be good this year, we had zero rain while they were growing them.

Dog,
You're right. Range conditions were not good up here either. We have a lot of ponds and lakes on this lease for their water needs but the grasses have been dead for the past three months.
Like you, we supplemental feed a lot.

The deer hit the feeders hard through the summer, and I think it probably helped them make it through okey.

I had three bucks that were in the 135-140 range early Sunday morning but it was just too early for the camera to work. They didn't stay long after first light.
Now that the grasses are getting green again with a little rain, I'm getting excited about it.

TPV - check your PM!
I like to see pictures of animals, so I thought I'd post some from this week-end.
Pretty good 8 point in one.
With all of the pigs we've shot, they are coming in at night almost exclusively. They bump the leg of the feeder to get the food to come out. I could fence them out but enjoy all of the good hunts they provide.
Hope everyone had a good week-end

Tom,
The 8-point in the fourth shot is awesome... interesting how the camera flash made his eyes glow! You're going to have a lot of fun this year... I'll help you drag it!

Well, good evening sraulers-
We ought to see those Canadians flying South pretty soon.
Looks like your pasture is producing some pretty good bucks as well.

Let me know if you need some more reloads (providing you haven't already started reloading for yours - in that case, I may just bring empty hulls and ask for a refill!!!) :D

Empty hulls is what I need most.
I'm going to get dies this week, as you know, not many folks stock 6.5 ammo.
I am loading 270 Win now then start on 6.5.
I tried the TSX bullets in the 270 but the SST's still shoot more accurately in my loads, at least.

Yup - that's my finding too. Love those SST's.

Wouldn't worry too much about getting set up for the 6.5 - chances are, a customer will cast admiring glances at it and off it will go! :D

Walked over (4 blocks, approx.) for a haircut just a bit ago. Made it OK. Hot as Hades, though!! We're still bumping 100 deg these days. Fall HAS to come one of these days!

Thought you'll might like to see these pics from this week-end. We had a great hunt, shot some pigs, and got some great pics. These two bucks are both 11 points and the one has good mass. Who knows where they will be next week!
These are the best pictures I could get. Sorry
