Ok, for us Newbies to the forum, I have read a great deal related to DOK but have not seen any new threads since I have been on the forum in May. He seems to be a pretty popular guy.

From what I have read he must have a great sense of humor, able to take a great deal of abuse, friendly of course.

Could the senior members of the forum tell us a bit more about this legendary figure?

Thanks.

Just check out the Humour section for many examples. Best to set the Showing Threads line at the bottom to The Beginning instead of the default 100 days, and start there. For his more serious side, check out this tech note.

DOK is/was our local punster Moderator with groaners published in this forum. A tough act to follow, but his adopted brat, 9'r is striving hard to live up to his stature. Zeppelin is closing in. :D

DOK helped kdub light the first fire and then helped him perfect the wheel, kdub is slightly older than DOK

I dunno I figured I would give them a couple weeks, so far I was the only candidate, and I hope it stays that way but I am sure they will look at more

yes they know, my resume I gave them had that I designed a beer brewery for my senior design project and that I am an active member in the local homebrew club.

They asked me if I knew the process of making ethanol and was easily able to spout it off :) I think they were impressed. I also told them that I loved making ethanol in one form or the other, which I think they liked since they want someone passionate about their job :D

Designed a brewery - I like that! I remember my older brothers doing the home root beer in the basement; lots of exploded bottles!

A family in the area I grew up made about 1000 gallons of hard apple cider every year - had a PTO to the apple chopper! That was some fine brew, and it really snuck up on you!

Hey 9r, do you want to borrow one of mine? It's got a ratchet head gear so it'll stretch with your head :D :D

1000 gal of hard cider, holy socks! what kind of yeast did you use, or did you just let it go on its own. Sweet Cider is getting into full swing here in the apple capital of the usa, and boy am I glad

For years I thought I was the only one who did root beer that resulted in exploding bottles. I use to use the very old coke bottles that were nice and thick. I would wrap them in towels and place the in plastic bags after bottling the root beer. Came home one night to the most beautiful smell in the house. The yeast evidently worked a bit too well. I took the ones that had not exploded and opened them outside. They went off better than any champagne bottle opened after a sports championship. It was fun while it lasted.

Niner, let us know when you hear for sure about the position. You certainly appear to be well qualified. :)

jb, Are you trying to start a fight with those boys from Washington State? I was informed in no uncertain words that the Apple Capitol was Wenachee. Washington. They even gave me a cup stating that when I was there. :D

Fair reasoning. Must admit that you were a state while the majority of this country was still wilderness, not to mention that PA was also 90% wilderness at the time as well.

I'm not sure what they used jb, it wasn't my operation. But it sure was good product, and nobody ever went blind, at least not permanently. :p

Sometimes those exploding bottles would wake us up at night! I never went down the home brew path, but it sounds like a fun and (can be) rewarding hobby.
