View Full Version : Gotta Watch That Rowdy Feller
That darned fella has been trying to disuade Big Med from trying to beat his (Rowdy's) 50 yd bench target and wants Big Med to attack my 100 yd scoped score.
That is the darndest feller I have ever seen. I sure hope Bid Med doesn't fall for that tactic. After all, I have a load of $5 bets riding on my score. :D :D

Well Rowdy,
I have not given up yet, but I was unable to catch you this weekend. Came close many a time, but just not close enough. The days are getting few, and this week isn't looking too good for shooting time. Might get out once before the dead line, and barring a miricle I think your score is pretty safe!
This has been one fun match, with a whole lot of good shooters! Each and every person can be proud of the targets they have turned in! Game animals should be just a little nervous around you fella's. I hope everyone has a safe and fun hunting season, and returns again next year if Ranch Dog is kind enough to throw this shin dig again for the fifth year.

Look out Rowdy!! I shot a target this am that might be a contender?? It might be close. I can't get a pic to post at Marlin Owners :( I had several that were .......almost, there except for one at the edge of the bull. Then it happened :D :D It was about my 5th target this am with the 32 mag. I got out about 0700, no wind, no direct sunlight and it came together. It is so muxh easer to get a good sight picture with out the sun blaring down on the target and the sights. I plan on one last hurrah in the morning.

Nice shooting big medicine, yep somedays no matter how hard i try i cant seem to hit my backside and other days the bullet will just fly in the same hole...
I shot my last targets today and they're in the mail ..I'm out of ammo for both 444's...I was able to get the XLR into the bench-scope class...
I have 21 more Federal 30-30s. and 25 rounds of 32-30 left.
I know my neighbors are going to be happy. I've shot about 4,000 rounds since April. I do let them let sleep til 9.00 am on Saturday though.

I'm lucky, Isn't any neighbors near my friends pasture where I shoot :D
Here is Big Med's latest assault. Not too bad... ;)

Nice,
I just checked the scoreboard for last year and this year. I believe we are going to have at least five scores better than last years first place in the bench\open sight match.

I'm just getting ready to head out this am for another try, and was just thinking about the same thing. The problem with that is, that we know we have shot these scores, trying to out-do ones self has to reach a point where that is all you can do. I though I had reached it last year  Ol Rowdy has set the bar pretty darn high ;)
Dave,
Thanks for posting that.

I still think you are safe Rowdy. What is gonna kill me is the bullet dia. 1/2 of a 35 mag isn't much, but heh, it gives me something to work on for next year. I got a couple that I will send in from this am also. I'll tell ya, if my eyesight was a little better and I could get just a little crisper sight picture I think I could do it.
I have the WWG sight on the rifle and it is all the way down. Taking a little of the post and being just able to see a little of the top of the white bull just over the front bead puts them right there. I wish I could see a little better detail with the bull to see exactly how much white the is.
I really want to put down a few bobcats and coyotes with the 218, 25-20, and 32 mag this year. They are zero'd in and ready to go now ;)

So big medicine are you done shooting, or are you giong to make me squirm for a little longer.. ;) The pix VTDW posted for you is that your best, or do you have another one in your pocket ? Lets post our best and be finished with it.
I'm done here I think. Have a 50 yard bench target that should break .400, a fair 100 yard target with the 336XLR and I shot a 100 yard offhand target so Beartoother wouldn't be last. :D
I may still shoot a couple more with the .44 when I get up from my nap. Ya' never know. ;)
BTW, ya'll scan down the scoreboard. Look how many entries me, Dan, Mike and Big Medicine have; look at how many Rowdy has. Hmmmmmm, a lesson for next year? :D

KenK,
My targets i sent in Sat. are 100yd bench shot with my XLR and the best was a 1.25" shot with EV ammo. So i take it yours are about the same..
I see their's another fellow with a rifling problem on the XLR thread..
For having messed up rifling they do seem to shoot OK
My best group is 1 3/8" overall with a Postal Match score of about 1 1/8". I've shot several groups where 3 of 5 were almost in the same hole.
I wouldn't mind putting a higher power scope on it and using a rear rest just to see.

Thats it buddy! Nothing in my pocket any better than that. Now it is time to start loading ammo for next year ;) This has been an enjoyable match. I'll probably go into depression and shooting withdrawl now :( I won't have an excuse not to get stated splitting wood either
Big Medicine, don't tell me you have tweaked that new .218 Bee all the tweakin' it needs.
I click over to the Ruger website every day or two and think about a #1 Bee. What kind of brass are you using? It's a shame Starline doesn't have .218 or 25-20, I wonder if it would be worth it to reform Starline 32-20.
Mine shows signs of wanting to last forever.

Ken,
I have got the Bee shooting. It will make one large hole at 50 yards (with scope) but at 100 yards not as good. Dont get me wrong, it will kill any varmit I pull the trigger on, but it ain't gonna beat VTDW the way it sits now. I really notice the trigger with the scope on the rifle, it needs some work. I think the groups will tighten up then. I may mess around a little more with loads, but I think the one I have now is hard pressed to be any better.
The only 218 Brass that I know of is Winchester brass. It seems to work fine. My 25-20 brass is all RP nickel it has more loads through it than I can count :D I would hold out for a Marlin 218 Bee, I did for 15 years and it was worth it.

Thank You big medicine,
No depression or withdraw for me, I loaded up some hunting loads for my 444, and took the press off the bench. In its place now sits the shotshell reloader. Time to build some 28ga. loads as pheasant season opens 10/14. Quail, huns and chukar are all open now, but it’s been to hot to hunt. Hopefully the weather will change and I can get this young pup out and see what he’ll do when a big rooster comes up from under his nose.
