I purchased a Winchester 94 30-30 in 1976 to do some deer hunting. From the moment I purchased it I have been having difficulty getting cartriges to chamber. I looked at it today after 30 years. As I pull the lever to Chamber the cartrige it hangs up on the side ramps and cocks the shell in the barrel. It does not appear that the cartrige is being forced up as it is being pushed forward. I had a gunsmith look at it shortly after I purchased it and nothing has improved. Does anyone know what might cause this to happen?

Sounds like the cartridge carrier isn't bringing the casing up. You'd need to take it to a good gunsmith or buy one of the dissassembly manuals on the Win 94.

Bill,
There is a carrier spring that is supposed to hold the carrier in position when the feeding motion begins. It sounds like the carrier spring screw could be loose, letting the carrier sag down when you start the bolt forward. You will need a schematic to see what I am talking about. Any good gunsmith should be able to fix this.

Here's a fuzzy schematic.
