I am rebarreling my old Remington Model 7. I also am restocking it as well. My prob is the aluminum floorplate is scratched and I thought I would just strip the old and repaint followed by some clear but my gosh that paint is hard! I wish steel aftermarkets were available for the Seven and outside of buying a new %#*! aluminum I don't know what else to do.
Any coments as to a solution or a stripper ...for the floorplate.

It isn't paint, its hard anodizing. It is hard because is is basically corundum. You can paint over it though. Brownells has several products that would work well. They also should have factory replacement parts. I doubt there are after-market floorplates for the Model 7, but there are for the 700 series. they are pricey.

Is this something I could sandblast to remove? I actually thought about painting it a silver and add clear over it.

You could, but would have to be real careful; not to remove to much aluminum with the paint. I would just do as Alk stated and sand it down and re-paint it. Either that or just buy a new one. They are on e-bay all the time.

The anodizing is extremly hard. Once it is removed your down to soft aluminum and it will scratch much more easily. I'd suggest just replacing it with a new factory part either from Remington or Brownell's. With the cost of a new stock and bluewing if you reblue the cost of a new floorplate is minor.

You could always try to find someplace local to re-anodize it. or contact williams, they could probably make one for you. Just out of curiosity, how different would the 700 floorplate be than a floor plate for a 7

A lot of difference. A plating shop can strip the anodize off and redo it. Most have a $75 min. though.

At that price it would be better to just buy a new one.
