I have a Leupold VXII 3x9x40 and was thinking of putting it on my Marlin 336 30.30. I just wonder if that is too much scope for a 30.30. Maybe I should wait and get something else. What do you think?

I would put it on there and be done with it. Perfect power for the 30-30 and the scope is not too big in my opinion.

Will certainly do the job, and if you find the balance to be acceptable go ahead. Good glass is never a mistake.

You might want to add one of the lace on cheak pads. It''l help you get a good cheak weld and be more comfortable to shoot.

Should be able to find a way to mount a 40MM objective lens scope decently low...but still may need that cheek piece.

Good glass and it wil work as per other comments above. IMHO it is unnecessarily big in size and magnification for a 30-30 carbine. But, hey, if it's paid for, that's half the justification for using it.
