Anyone from down under hunt ducks or geese? There seems to be an incredible amount of them, some areas to the point of being pests. I'd like to hear from anyone who hunts them. Thanks, grayghost

Sorry mate,i dont shoot water fowl much.There is plenty of good bird hunting here,maybe someone else can help.

No go over here in the west. Been banned for years. Property owners can get a permit if they are a problem. Otherwise they are all protected by law as are most native animals.

Yup, must say I have zero desire to shoot birds in OZ either - bout the only thing that needs shooting are the Indian Minors! ;)

That's interesting. OZ has a large variety of waterfowl and from what I've been told they do a lot of damage to farmers crops. Just thought I would ask if anyone knew the scoop. Thanks, grayghost

As far as I know some of the eastern states still have a duck season.
As far as crop damage goes in the southern parts of West Oz
we need to prove damage to be able to get a permit. Which is to generally destroy a set number of birds.
The rules may be different in the far northern irrigation areas around Kunnunurra.
In reality there is pretty limited shooting opportunities in West Oz.
Mostly limited legaly to rabbits, foxes, feral goats, feral pigs,with donkeys, camels, dingoes. Other things such as kangaroos are available to pros and property owners by permits also permits for limited numbers of birds causing crop damage.
Pretty much all shooting I know of is limited to privately held property.
No bird season at all not even quail.

Fast approaching being a paper target state.
The limited opportunities to shoot game makes getting a licence more difficult.

Its not hard to get work being paid to shoot ducks in VIC when the rice season starts.Ive heard it pays well too.

Probly cheap to do as well. I would imagine the a plain ol 22 rimfire would do the trick. A big box of cheap ammo and you would have enough shots for a few days

When I was a kid my Uncle had a fruit farm up in Granite Country - Stanthorpe way and they used to go out at night shooting flying foxes ... they were the only thing I recall they shot at with wings.

Im pretty sure they use shotguns mate.My mate said its a top job if a little boring at times.They get supplied ammo and get $25 an hour.Its only a couple months a year so not full time,or i would be doing it for sure.

I hate to hear about the hunting/shooting regs. You guys gave it all in WW II and it seems like everyone wants to take away what should be guaranteed rights. I could get into the crop damage control. I would do it for free :) grayghost
