i just bought a marlin 30-30 off one of the guys at work, who has had it about 20 years, from what i read i cant figure out what year this rifle is
the barrell says 336 R.C. which i read they stopped stamping R.C. in 1959,
but the numbers under the lever action say 68 (more numbers) which i read that is a late year 1968 model any help would be great, also this weapon is in like new shape, just a few light scratches on the stock the brass trigger has just the slight hint of wear on it
thanks for the help

Go to this site and put in your serial number as needed. Most have 1 or 2 letter codes in the serial number until 1969-1990 which use the first two digits. Since your two digits are 68, there must be a one or two letter code in the serial number.

that web site does not find any matches for the first numbers of 68 in the SN#

Are you finding any 1 or 2 letter codes in the serial number?

Hmmm...Might try going over to oldguns.net (http://oldguns.net/sn_php/marlinlookup.php)

Although it seems they have the same lookup system. If that does not work, may have to call Marlin.

That would make the 336 I picked up on Saturday a 1980 model. Good sight. Thanks for the info.
