Called the police today and told them i had the safe inspected yesterday and that the fax should be through. To my amazement they had already done everything and i just had to go in and do the formal bits.

So i got to pick up the ruger today!

Nice looking Ruger Brad. What caliber is it in. Just from looking I'd guess a rimfire.

Take a look in the gunsmithing section there's a sticky on how to work over the ruger trigger if it needs a little tuning up.

I think they try to get people to think its all too hard so maybe they'll give up.
I don't know what the trigger is like on the hornet but if its anything like my .223 you'll need some work doing on it.
Wish I could transfer the trigger of my anschutz .22m onto it coz that is a sweet trigger.

Now you just have to go out and see how it shoots.

Fifty bucks for fifty rounds mate and i got two boxes of remingtons as it was all they had left. Got hollow points and soft points so will see what it likes.

Hopefully i will break it in next week.

223 $40 for 50. Go figure that out, smaller case smaller projectile less powder, more money.

If you want the best value and accuracy you will want to look at handloading along the line.

No probs, might get to punch some paper tomorrow arvo.

Tis a shame its not legal to use on roos- i believe with the correct shot placement it can kill as humane as other guns- maybe at closer targets- but the .243 we use can still get that job anyway. Wish we had a few more pests round our area that we could shoot apart from foxes and rabbits and cats but i suppose they wont be letting any more in :p

I will be handloading in the future, trying to decide between hollow and soft points but will get a hornady v max load sorted at some stage. Should be a fun little load for sure.

Well, Brad, place your shots and the hornet may even be up to goats, although placement is paramount.
I do know that DaveH uses his on dingos and dogs when he has a contract for them.
Besides, the Hornet was designed for small game.

The only drawback with mine is the split-bolt thing. Not supposed to lock up solidly like a one-piece, but have little to no difficulty with mine in the accuracy department once I settled on the 35 gr V-Max and 13.0 gr Li'l Gun load.

Matter of fact, there's 150 neck sized and primed cases sitting on the bench ready for reloading, as we speak! ;)

Been years since I had a hornet. Today there's some much better powders to load with. that Li'l gun is great. You'll like it if you start reloading.

Glad you got a good trigger sometimes you do, mostly they need some work. We'll be waiting to see what kind of groups you get.

ADI ar 2205 works very well in a hornet.

Fifty bucks for 50 rounds, I hope that came with a jar of vaseline. You had better get into reloading quick. 13.5 grains (basically to the top of the shell) Lil'gun behind a 45 grain hornet bullet and you will be set. Velocity out of my 24 inch Ruger is about 2750. Real accurate.

Last i heard, the minimum for roo was the 222 but that was a few years ago so it may have been updated.
Mind you min calibre dont mean jack if you havent got the tags. Without tags, even a 22lr can do a roo, except its illegal and law abiding citizens such as us condemn the poaching of wildlife :D

Crikey! I must be completely out of the loop.
1. How do you apply for tags?
2. What's the criteria for getting them?
3. What are the limits?
4. Anything else I should know?

I'm always interested to hear talk about a particular calibre being unsuitable unless bullet placement is correct. It's as if the "suitable" calibre will kill regardless of placement.

Here are the rules down my way,plus a link to some interesting info.

Nominal bore size 0.569 cm (0.224") and centrefire case capacity of at least .222 Remington.
