I just bought a new Marlin 336 a week ago. Then I ordered some dummy rounds from Brownells, and have been cycling them. It cycles great, getting them in the magazine is the trouble. The first round goes in the magazine nice and smooth, but them I can barely get them to go in. Is it just the black coating on the dummy rounds, or is there something else I need to know?

Here is the link to what I got.

Thanks for the help in advance.

I suspect your rifle does not like those point bullets. You need a more rounded nose for that tubular magazine. Have you ever owned a Marlin Levergun before?

Surely they used a bullet appropriate for tubular magazines in the 30-30 dummies?

As you load each successive cartridge you should feel the spring getting a little tighter but certainly not any great amount.

No offensive, but if you aren't absolutely positive you know how to load it, check your owners manual or ask somebody for help that can actually hold the rifle in their hands.

Well the dummies have just a little flat point on them, but the metplat is nowhere near as big as the boxes of ammo I have. So I went to the range, and it loaded actual ammo, and it loads them like butter. So its just the dummies. You would think they would use a better bullet for 30-30 dud rounds. Its just a jacketed lead round nose, with just the tip being flat.

I couldn't actually go shooting today, its pouring rain, but I do feel better now that my problem is solved.

This is the first levergun I've owned, but I've loaded and shot them before.

I grew up on Louis L'Amour westerns and any kind of western novel there was. I love to hunt and shoot, so it feels like my childhood dreams are fullfilled :D

Good deal. Send them back to Brownells and buy some more ammo.
