I am looking for a new scope for my 300 Rem.Ultra Mag. The recoil seem to mess with it after I sight it in. I am in to long rage shooting so the scope would have to be for that also. I would really love to get some help from anyone that shoots a beast of a gun like me. thank you.

Welcome to the forum nevadaHunter. Rules are simple, be nice and join in.
I shoot an 8mm Rem mag, got a friend with a 300 RUM and a 7mm STW and my old hunting partner shoots a 7mm Rem mag.
I use a Simmons ATEC. My friend uses a Burris on his RUM and one of the new Leapold's with the big dent on his STW. My hunting partner uses Burris and Leapold on his 7 mags.
He thinks I lucked out with the ATEC and my be right. It's done well by me, but my scope of choice would be the Leapold followed by the Burris. Both have the best warrentee on the market.
I just sent an almost new Weaver 3 by 9 classic into Simmons/Meade the new owners of Simmons, Weaver and Redfield and they don't want to fix it even though they say it carries a lifetime warrentee.
I know you can drop a rock on a Leapold and not only will they fix it for not charge, but thank you for buying from them.
Lots of folks say you get what you pay for, but I think when you buy Leapold or Burris you actually get a little more.

I am not sure of your definition of Long Range, but if you mean out to 1K, then that requires a scope that allows turrets to be turned inoreder to aim dead on and get away from the max point blank range sightin, for precise accuracy.
The Leupolds MK4's are popular for this, but be warned unless Leupold has recently changed them the Leupolds adjust in inches per hundred yards not minutes of angle.
The Scope that I prefer fpr Long Range shooting are the Nightforce with the NP-R2 reicle The Nightforce is tougher than nails and adjust precisely as well as adjustments are in Minutes of angle not inches per hundred yards
I saw a Nightforce at the Shot Show in Vegas this year that had an AK-47 bullet hole completely through the tube just in front of the power adjustment ring and the scope still functioned perfectly, the solider put tape over the holes and used the scope for 3 more days
I have a Nightfore on my 300 Win, my 300 RUM and one one a 338 RUM and they are quite fantastic

NevadaHunter,
This depends on your definition of "long range" of course, but I would recommend getting good mounts for this as well. I agree that the Mark 4 series Long Range Leupolds would be an excellent choice for what I assume is long range shots at Elk and Muley's? The 6.5-20x50, 8.5-25x50 or even look at the new VXL Leupold's.

My Leupold VX-I 4x9 on standard Leupold mounts seems to work pretty good. Never had it move around, and has plenty of eye relief to keep the raccoon away (though I doubt I'd have a problem with that anyway), and everything I need to shoot at is plenty visible.

Thank all of you I been told that the Leupolds where the way to go by the sporting goods store here but you never know what to belive from them because most of them are just out for the buck$$$ As far as what I call long range I am talking 500 yards to a 1000 yards but thank you again

Your bases and rings have as much to do with your accuracy as your scope. Make sure they are all good and tight, same goes for your action screws.
Beyond that, I would go with Leupolds. Its what I always go with. From .22 to 375 H&H....

I would suggest the leupold scopes as well. Get the 8.5-25x40 or 50, you will be pleased!

I agree with privatepilot on the recommendation of the 8.5-25 Leupold. A local gunsmith, Sid Goodling, is well known for building winning 1000-yard match rifles as well as long range hunting rifles. His recommendation for a hunting scope is always this model.
