I picked up a used MEC 9000G. Previous owner said MEC went through it, so it looks pretty clean.
I reload .45LC on a rockchucker, so I figure this shouldn't be too hard to figure out. I bought a Lyman shotshell book, but it doesn't have the loading specs for the cheaper Remington black hulls.
I have a lot of cheap 8pt Remington black hulls. I cut one in half, and it looks like the Remington RTL hull. I've read the cheap factory loads like these aren't good for more than a couple of reloads, but since I have so many, I'd like to use them. Are they the same as the RTL?
The main reason I bought this was to do steel shot. The place I go for sporting clays wants steel shot, and some of the other places we go might have to go that route also. I have not ordered the MEC steel shot adaptor for the 9000 or the steel charge bars yet.
I am looking to find reccomendations for hull/wad for sporting clays with steel shot, also places to get steel shot supplies - I looked at www.precisionreloading.com, anyplace else good?
Thanks in advance.

Man that's going to be expensive to shoot!! I don't know of any lite target reloads for steel! I'd find some where that allows lead! Then there'sa the big question is your shotgun rated for steel-not all are. :(
The black Remingtons use the same data as the Premier, Nitro 27 or STS hulls.
Alliant has some steel load data on their website.

Thanks for the info. That will help out a lot for lead clay loads.
I have a Lyman book, it lists steel loads with the Remington RTL cases.
What is the difference between the Remington hulls? Any? Other than how many times they can be used?
Thanks

Now you got me looking, and I can't find a complete answer. The Black hull is internally identical to the Premier, Nitro 27 and STS Remingtons. The only difference I can see is that the Black is a little softer plastic. They load very nicely. In fact, they have been around longer than the others. They were first brought out about 1970, give or take a few years, when Remington's top target load was the All-American, which still used a high basewad.
I don't have any "Nitro Steel" (3") or "Nitro Mag" (2 3/4") shells to compare. I'm not sure if they are the same (except for plastic composition) or not. Were I to want to load them with steel, I think I'd ask Alliant or Remington before I went and did it.

That's good to know about them.
Alliant has some 2 3/4 loads listed for their Steel poweder, but they only list the Remington Nitro Mag.
The Lyman book I have has a steel section, for 2 3/4" 1oz target loads for the RTL cases, using several different powders. I only checked one manufacturer web site for data on it, and couldn't find anything to match what I found in the book. I will do some more research, but was wondering if anyone here had loaded steel.
Found something that might help. From Hodgdon's 2006 Annual Manual:
12 Gauge, 2 3/4", Remington STS, NITRO 27 or GUN CLUB plastic shells. One ounce of Steel shot. Powder, HODGDON UNIVERSAL. Wad, BP-STS.
Winchester 209 primer. 19.5 grains powder. 1,200 FPS. 10,800 PSI.
CCI 209SC primer. 19.5 grains powder. 1,200 FPS. 10,100 PSI.
CCI 209M primer. 21.0 grains powder. 1,200 FPS. 9,200 PSI.
CCI 209M primer. 21.5 grains powder. 1,250 FPS. 9,900 PSI.
CCI 209M primer. 22.0 grains powder. 1,300 FPS. 11,000 PSI.
That's all they have for the Remington hulls.
