I had a friend give me a beat up old 10/22 a couple years ago. I also had a little money last january and Midway had a sale on a Adams and Bennet 10/22 fluted stainless barrel and thumbhole silloutte stock for $189. I also put in a Power custom sear and hammer that added anoth $30 or so. I stuck a Leaupold 2X7 on it and it is just the berries. Using federal Gold medal I have shot ten shots at 50 yards into a group that can be completely covered with a dime. It is also the most ergonomic shooter I have. Its hard to miss with it. I think the 10/22 with the cheap custom parts available are by far the most accurate sweet 22s out there. You owe it to yourself to try one.

Matt

I shot 10-22's for a lot of years. Even the stock one's were very accurate. It seems the 10-22 is one of the most modified guns on the market.

As my grand babies grew up and started shooting I moved on to bolt guns simply for safety of six thru 13 years olds. I do miss the 10-22's but the new CZ 452 is nice also.

Sounds like yourl having fun with that "homebuilt" 10-22.

We want pictures........... ;)

10/22 will be my next 22lr purchase. My son may likely inherit my Marlin when the time comes.

Good idea for the kids switching to the bolt. I was raised on an H&R single shot Pioneer 22 single shot. Teaches you to make your first shot count. First handgun shooting was with a Steven's Tip up single shot. I can hear my Dad still saying "look at the front sight".

I'll have to bring a camera home and post a picture of my super shooter.

I have several nice .22 rifles, but I thought I owed myself a 10/22 that I could modify. I call the 10/22 and erector set gun due to all the combinations and permutations possible, most for reasonable money. I built mine up with a Green Mountain fluted stainless barrel, Power trigger parts, a Hogue stock and a Weaver 2x7 rimfire scope. Accuracy with these things is amazing.

1022 customs are a ball! i bought a 1022 several years ago then a few years later midway had a special on fluted bull barrels and thumbhole laminated stock sets.... the first time i shot it after installing the custom parts i was amased... shot 3 rounds into the same .22 caliber hole from a bench and sand bags.... it's since had a volquartsen target hammer, some trigger work by them,a volquartsen extrator, and recoil buffer from there, sent my bolt to cpc this spring to have it worked on by randy..... that thing shoots like a laser! it's the most fun gun i've ever shot and it's cheap to feed too. it likes the federal bulk ammo in the blue box the best of what i've tried... the barrel on mine says mdway on it but i was told green mountain made them.... and you are right about the thumbhole stock... it feels real natural to hold and shoot.......

I'm currently working on a 10/22 custom build. Yep, it's a blast! Here's where I'm at so far.

Whistle Pig 18ā€ Fluted Compensated Polished Barrel (red flutes)
Butler Creek Soft Grip Synthetic
Hornet Custom ā€œSā€ Trigger Group
Bead Blasted Receiver
Jeweled Bolt by CPC
VQ Extended Bolt Handle & Recoil Rod
Shock Stop Bolt Buffer
VQ Extended Mag Release
Power Custom Mount
Millet Lightweight Alloy Rings
Leupold VXII-3X9X33 EFR

The receiver was shipped to the lower 48 to be finished in Black T.
The bolt is a CPC getting reworked and jeweled.
The wrong stock was shipped to me so I shipped it back and I'm waiting for the correct stock to arrive. I will hopefully have this thing put together within three weeks or so. This will be my hare and spruce hen whacker!

i thought you might loke to see the new project I just completed. Here is a rundown of the rifle and what's in it and on it.

Work done by Randy at Connecticut Precision Chambering.

TRIGGER JOB
o 2.0 - 2.4 lb trigger pull
o Trigger and hammer side shims
o Trigger over travel screw
o Forward anti-creep/slack screw
o Auto-bolt release conversion
o Single stage pull reworked to be as crisp as possible
o Oversize receiver pins installed to tighten trigger group
o Extended magazine release installed

BOLT COMBO
o Bolt is totally disassembled, cleaned, deburred
o Bolt face is surface ground and squared to .0425" LR rim headspace depth; same as bolt action rifle for accuracy and reduced flyers
o Bolt side is beautifully prism jeweled
o A hole is E.D.M.'ed and a stainless dowel pin pressed in over the front of the firing pin to hold it from raising up, reducing flyers and to get more consistent firing pin strikes.
o Bolt buffer installed.

Barrel by Louis at Whistlepig 18 inch .920 Bull barrel with Bentz chamber and built in compensator. Finish is black fade to gunmetal Grey.
Scope Nikon Pro Staff 3-9X50 Black Matt finish. Weaver high see through mount.

Stock The crowning glory of the entire project is the absolutely beautifully flawless stock made by Mr. John ORear of www.rugerstocks.com.

I really like the walnut burl cheekpeice (thats what it looks like at least...) on the laminated stock... it's different but looks good!

You are right about the cheekpiece being Walnut Burl. The buttplate palmswell and end cap are in Ebony and the spacers are of Zebrawood. John O Rear of www.rugerstocks.com made the stock for me.

I resisted pimping my 10/22 for the longest time. Then one of the guys I know who's a 10/22 freak told me he had a Green Mountain Bull bull barrel he wasn't going to use as he was building another 17. $40 and I was off and running.

Hogue overmold stock, PC trigger, springs, hammer, sear, shims, recoil buffer from buffer tech, mag release, and home modified auto bolt release not to mention a bi-pod, a Nikon 3-9 x 40, Butler Creek flip up caps and 9 extra mags...

Its the Evil Black Bunny Sniper Rifle! Good thing it likes Remington Thunderbolt or I couldnt afford to feed it because it's so fun to shoot.

Then I found another one, stock but with a very pretty birch stock. Who knew Birch had nice grain!
