I am a newbie to guns, I just bought a 35 Marlin, 336, brass trigger.

Serial # starts Y 23xxx

Can you tell me what year it is, I saw the previous msgs with the year list. Is this a 1964 or 1977 ( 100-23)?

Has a 3x9 weaver scope.

Gun is in nice condition hardly any wear, got it for 299. probably a couple bucks high, but I'm happy. Was that a decent price?

Thanks.

The Y prefix puts it at 1964.

The "golden trigger" is a Marlin trademark -- not even sure they use them any more. It sounds like a standard carbine. The price -- well, if it's in excellent condition you didn't get ripped off. You can find new ones with a hardwood stock instead of walnut for about the same price, but the older ones are, to me, definitely a little better in fit, finish, and smoothness of action.
