Its not always about the biggest buck, or the most ducks.
This week-end, I had the pleasure of initiating a new hunting buddy and gate opener.

This is my 4 year old grandson Alex, who got to shoot his new .22 with his Dad, and keep the fire going in the pit back at camp.
While his dad hunted by himself more seriously Saturday evening, the young man and I did sit in a two man blind an got to see a young buck come in to feed.
That was cool enough for my grandson, but 30 minutes before dark, a big hog came in that "granddad" got a chance to shoot.
Well, feeling the pressure from small eyes that just knew I couldn't miss,,,,,,,,,I managed to miss.
After looking for blood for a while, the young man was sure that I hit the pig and it just ran off.
Okay, we'll live with that.

I had more fun on that hunt then most of the other hunts I've been on over the years.
Priorities sure change!

Good Luck to all

A very nice story; thanks for sharing.

If you think you had fun, it'll never match Alex telling HIS grandkids about the great times he had with Dad and Granddad out in the field.

Now you know exactly how I feel when I have Mason at the hip, Tom! :D

Great pic's - be sure there's more, especially of the fishing holes!

Thx guys.
Ever since we've started taking the boy out to the hunting lease, we've noticed a change in him. He's a little more mature with each trip.
I never met a kid who didn't like the outdoors. Even the " tough kids"
Good Luck hunting this year to all-

I'll be counting on YOU for my luck this year, tpv! :D

How's the 6mm/284 and the 6.5-06 sound for those monster bucks and hawgs! They're the ones getting the workout these days, anyhoo.

Sounds good to me.

I've been working up loads for the 270 so I might shoot my deer with it this year. The Win. 6.5x55 is really shooting well with the 125 grain Nosler.
And for a real treat since you are a gun enthusiast, I have been working on a laminate sporter stock for the Vanguard 30-06.
It is going to be a beautiful rifle in about a week. It has a straight comb, decelerator pad, and, always has been accurate.

I think you could shoot an '06 round thought a 3" drill pipe and it would still be accurate. Everyone needs one.

See you'll
Tom

My son wants me to shoot a 'bad piggie,' after helping me trail up a deer last year. Lotsa fun!

Yep, Its great, isn't it!
I kept telling Alex how mean and dangerous these big boars were, just to keep it interesting while we were in the blind.
By the time we saw one, all he kept saying was,"Shoot that pig Grandaddy, shoot that pig!"

I hit him so hard that he had to run away and tell all his pig friends about it!
