I am new to muzzleloading and have found a TC Omega synthetic stainless brand new for only $330. I plan on buying it this week as it seems like a pretty good deal and a pretty good gun.

Question:

A few years ago I attempted to get into BP shooting and bought some accessories, sabots, pyrodex pellets, etc., but for various reasons never got started and put them away on a shelf. Now I'm eager once again to get started.

Do any of you have any recommendations for me? What do you think of the gun? What kind of powder/pellets, and any recommendations on scopes, bullets, gear, maybe an introductory DVD or video etc?

Any advice or help much appreciated.

Your omega should have came with an introductory video. It tells you about a lot of basic things you should get. Patches, a range rod w/ t-handle, #13 bore cleaner, bore butter, bullet starter, and pre-lubed cleaning patches are all things you should have. Next you decide on bullets and powder. I really recommend loose powder: it's simple to measure it out and you have lots more variety in charge weight. Pyrodex, 777, and american pioneer powder(ffg) are pretty basic powders with pyrodex the most popular. You'll just have to decide and try. For primers the new 777 primers are good, but standard ones are okay too. As far as bullets, 250gr shockwaves are pretty all around, and 240gr cheap shots are great for practice. :)

Omega's went on clearance at Wal*mart last week for $ 249.oo . If I had know Smith & Wesson had bought T/C Arms ; I would have picked one up .

If you want a genuine T/C you better hurry while supplies last .

Omegas are the standard against all other inlines are measured against. TC really hit it with the Omega. I too like loose powder. Don't see any advantage with the pellets, plus they are more expensive. I've shot powerbelts with good results. May not shoot as flat as some of the sabots out there, but how far are you going to shoot? My shots are 150yds and less, usually alot less. Like 30 & 40 yds. Don't like the way sabots load. I've been shooting conicals lately and like those too.

soaking up all this muzzleoading info here, all sounds good, does anyone know if pioneer powder is as clean as the commercial says-1000 shots without cleaning?
