Howdy. My name is ian, and im new to this discussion. I have had success using a Winchester model 94 30-30 lever action for white tail hunting in southwestern Virginia. I am using open sights with poor eyesight and feel comfortable shooting to about 75-100yards.
I have been using the new Hornady LEVERevolution rounds and feel like the 30-30 round can be effective at longer ranges. On the same note, I would rather see my sister on a Honda then a scope on my Winny.
so I am thinking about a 336 with a scope for the longer shots. I am absolutely smitten with the 336ss, the stainless steel version of the 336.
(after all that…) My question is would the chrome finish of the 336ss (with a matching stainless scope and associated mounting hardware) be to loud for white tail hunting in mid to heavy brush??? We get a lot of rain in these parts, so Im thinking the added weather resistance is a good thing, but not if it is going to cost me detectablity …. Any thoughts?

That SS finish will be just fine. I have one of the 336SS-35LTD's which is the SS guide gun in 35Rem. The finish is not shiny, so it shouldn't produce a glare. Don't worry about scoping one, either. I've got scopes on most of my Marlins. My eyes are getting worse by the minute  .

There is something about using good big iron sites, be it the new truglow sites or the old Marbles bush horn and a flashly red front site.
I have yet to have a deer run away from me because I had the wrong colour of gun. They are more apt to notice the noise I made, or my scent. So do not use Irish Spring soap and aftershave, nor eat something where you will pass a lot of gas .
Be clean , be quite and buy that( 35 Marlin instead. LOL. You will see that with one Marlin you will need one in 35 then another in a big bore a small bore for small game then a 1894 in 357 / 44 or 45 colt for the cowboy shoots.
Go ahead with the 336 SS and enjoy. I think the new ones come with truglow sites so you will not need the scope

Welcome to the forum. If you live on one of those states that require so many square inches of glow in the dark orange I wouldn't worry about the flash from that stainless gun.
I know what you mean by the eyesight going. I'd sure suggest one of the low power variable scopes such a a 1.5 to 5. Good field of view and a real help with sighting.
Again welcome to the forum.

I was hunting a couple of days ago with my brand-new 336SS and in the morning and the evening when the sun was low, I did have some glare on my barrel and scope. More so on my scope. I took my neck wrap and pulled it over my scope to hide it. It was the perfect size in that it didn't cover my lens on either side. It did slow me down a little when I was looking for the trigger when the doe popped out of the brush. Here is a picture of my 336.

To my eyes the sun glares off the blued worse than the stainless .. but your right on the scopes.

Blued or stainless, the gun that'll give you away to game is the one that's the most highly polished. Most stainless guns have a more or less matte or brushed finish and will actually reflect less light than a polished, blued gun.

See photo below: 336SS-LTD .35 Remington, 18" barrel, Leupold 2-7x33 VX-I Silver scope, Weaver 63B-S mount, Leupold Rifleman rings. The finish is bare stainless steel and not chrome plated.
The action, like all Marlins, is a little stiff when new but after break-in, the more you use SS Marlins, the slicker they get.
Buy one, you'll like it. 30-30 Winchester or 35 Remington. Better yet, buy one of each.
Enjoy.
