Just brought home a New Remington 870 Express with wood laminate finish. Had just gotten it unpacked and put together, and decided to go ahead and clean it. Using Birchwood Casey 2-in-1 bore scrubber, I inadvertently dripped some on the stock and it stripped off some of the finish. Any suggestions on stains or finish to bring it back to normal? Its just going to be a cheap beater shotgun, so I am not too worried about how it looks, I just feel bad that I have already messed it up and hadn't even shot it.

Simple way is just sand it down a little and put on some birchwood casey's stock finish.
Another thing you might consider is to get some camo spray paints and just do both the buttstock and the forend. This will cover up everything and give you a usable field finish.

Hi Justin,
If it were me, I would just Tru-Oil your buttstock and perhaps the forend. The blemish should be gone and the wood should look five times better :) If you want to take the varnish off and start over(without taking off the stain)....I would recommend Formby's Varnish remover. It melts the varnish but doesn't touch the stain or harm the wood at all. My Grandfathers Mod. 37 had the Varnish chipping off, and I did the Formby's to take off the old stuff, then about 10 coats of Tru-Oil:

Edit: Sorry...I missed the fact that your stock was laminate. That might change the way you address the problem. Details always wind up biting me in the rear end!
