If I keep the tube mag of my 336 loaded, will the spring, like in a handgun, at one time take a set and cause jams?

Unless a mag spring is defective -- whether it's in a rifles tube mag or and autopistol's mag -- leaving it loaded will do no harm. Yes, a new spring will take a set, but once that's done it's not going to change. A flawed spring may fail, and repeated compressions and releases will eventually wear a spring out, but leaving a good spring compressed will do no harm.

Howdy, I just bought a 336w and I bought two boxes of the Hornady leverevolutin 160 gr. ammo, and I was also wondering if I leave six shells in the magazine for an extended time, will the plastic tips reform ok?

Apparently you shouldn't leave them in because yes they will deform. But all day shouldn't be a problem and any longer we always unload anyway ... I'm curious how you do with this ammo though. I've heard it isn't happy in everyone's guns. You might buy something else to compare it to. It was flakey in my 336 while the Remington Coreloct 160 gr was sweet.

I just acquired an 1873 Winchester in 38-40. I unloaded it before bringing it home. Don't know how long it's been loaded, but the ammo says REM-UMC 38 WCF. Probably since the 40's. Spring seems fine and they all ejected out ok.
Besides, springs are cheap and an easily replaceable item.

And on the handguns, if I have a mag that goes bad, I just pitch it and get another. That however, is usually from dropping them on the feed lips and not spring problems.
