Hello to all, I have just recieved my shipment of Beartooth Bullets and now I was looking for some load recomendations. I have the 44 cal. 300gr LMNDC GC. I have a super red hawk, so I would naturally be using the rear crimp grove for the long cylinder. The powder of choice will be H110. I am Looking for top loads only with this bullet. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Joe.

Joe,

For your purposes, try this load:

THIS LOAD SUITABLE ONLY FOR RUGER REDHAWK, SUPER-REDHAWK, COLT ANACONDA, AND T/C CONTENDERS & OMEGAS. BULLET MUST BE SEATED TO .500" NOSE-TO-CRIMP LENGTH!!!

BTB .432"-300gLMNGCDCG/25.0g H110/WLPP/Starline Brass/Crimped to .500" nose-to-crimp groove ONLY!

This should put you into the effeciency envelope for H110 and the above bullet/component combination.

Let us know how they perform for you! Thanks for your business too!

God bless,

Marshall, that load sounds like a real barn burner. 25gr of H110 with a 300gr bullet. What kind of velocity numbers do you think that would generate in a 9.5" SRH.

I have never used WLPP primers before. I have always used the CCI LP Magnum Primers when igniting H110. Are the Winchester primers magnum? Thanks again for the load info. I will let you know how it performs.

The gun has always been a good shooter. While I was waiting for the BTB's I loaded the Hornady xtp 300gr hp, under a stiff load of H110 and got about 1.5" @ 50 yards. This was not shooting off sandbags. I was shooting from a seated position with my back against a tree and used my knees as a rest.

Thanks again

Joe

I won't comment on the load because I haven't tried it. I shoot my best with a handgun from the same position as you 44 joe.

Good shooting to you.

Hi there!I am buckwalka

if you try Federal 210 Large rifle primers i think you'll find a little better ignition of the powder than you get with the WLR's, without getting the problem of having primer cups that are too hard like with some of the CCI's.

Federal 210 primers are just about the hottest LR primers out there. i saw where 'Mic' McPherson rated only the Federal 215's and maybe the Win' WLR-Magnums as being hotter in some experiments he did just a couple years ago. The Remington LR's in Magnum would also be a suggestion for a primer that 'Mic' found to be hotter than the Winchesters.

Consider ANY magnum handgun cartridge that is 'straight-walled' to need a firm crimp no matter what you fire it in.

I'd consider the use of either IMR or Hodgdon's 4227 speed (single-based) propellant for your application, or possibly Alliant's 2400 (made famous by Elmer Keith!) if there is data for it. With the Alliant 2400, however, i'd use standard rifle primers in those cases that have been labelled with the "R" headstamp.

i shoot a lot of Magnum loads in the straight-walled .357 and .44 Mag' variants. straight-walled cartridges can be problematic; but they are well worth the results when you catch on to what your firearm wants in them!

good luck,

buckwalka
