My son killed his first Oklahoma muzzleloader buck and doe this past weekend. He has killed several deer in Texas but never hunted with me on our place in Oklahoma or with a muzzleloader. He was shooting an Encore with a Pro hunter ML barrel topped with a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14 scope. He was using 130 gr Pyrodex and a 250 gr Hornady SST.

Wow, what a nice buck for that young man! He'll be hooked for life! His generation is the future of our sport, and our firearms ownership rights as well.
Great you've got him afield! Bet you're a proud dad.
God bless,

Congratulations to your son and you! Great goodness that's a big deer. I agree with Marshall, you've got him hooked now, I bet. Good for you. A buddy for life sharing the hunting traditions.

That is one fine animal. Now the real fun begins. Do you process your own meat?

Looks like a big bodied deer.
Congratulations to your son. That's what its all about.
I hunt in Jack County Texas which is not to far from the Red River.
Our regular season starts this Saturday.

As to the meat processing question, I deboned the deer and gave the meat to my parents. They are going to grind everything except the back straps for hamburger/chili meat.
The deer weighed 150 pound field dressed which put him about 205 on the hoof. My son's doe weighed 154 lbs on the hoof, and I killed one today that weighed 152.
I am back in Oklahoma to hunt myself right now, but my son is going to hunt the Texas opener with my brother. It is the first time that I have missed opening weekend in 25 years.
