Looking for opinions on the Remington Core-Lokt 30-30 win. 150 or 170gr. sp. Trying to decide if i am going to use them for deer season. What ammo do you prefer shooting when going deer hunting? My longest shot will be somewhere around 100yds. more than likely 50-60 yds.

This bullet has been a good performer for a lot of years and at 30-30 velocities should do you well.

I shoot all reloads in my deer/big game bolt actions and have been using Sierra Game Kings for ever.

Would you shoot the 150gr. or the170gr.?

Frankly I don't think it makes a bit of difference at the ranges and velocities your talking about. Your going to get guys that will tell you one is better than the other, but it's really a matter of preference. Bet the deer can't tell the difference.

At the normal velocity of cartridges like the .30-30 and .35 Remington, the CoreLokt is, IMO, just about the "ideal" bullet. Used on deer at the ranges you describe you will not be disappointed.

I have had nothing but positive results when reloading these bullets. Killed various types of big game when I lived in Wyoming with reloaded Core-Lokts in 243 Winchester and 7mm08. Never lost an animal shot with one. I only recovered one bullet. A good sized mule deer shot at about 275 yards with my Sako 243 produced a classic mushroomed bullet with a retained weight of 72 grns.... I haven't used them in my 30-30s only because I have a bunch of speer hot core 130, 150, and 170 grn bullets I picked up at a bargain price. In a reasonably priced hunting bullet I rate the Core-Lokts at or near the top of the list.

Having owned several 30/30's, They all have their own preference to brand and bullet weight. If you're real lucky, the rifle you have wile shoot everything ok. My current 336 loves Federal 170's. Not Remington anything, or Federal 150's. The Remington Core-Loct bullet is great for handloading if you don't do cast. Funny thing is my 336 in .35 Prefers the Federal over Remington in the 200 gr.
