Anyone got an old Lyman loading manual? If so, I need a couple of their loads for cast bullets in 378 and 460 Wby and powders like Green Dot, 700ZX etc.
Many years ago in a previous 460 I think I was using 28 grains of Hi Scor 700 X and 400 grain Speer for about 1300 f/s and very good accuracy. However, my memory could be out some :)
Thanks in advance.

The 47th edition Lyman lists no cast bullet loads for the .460 and for the .378 they only list Unique, With a 267 grain gas check 24 grains gives 1685 fps and a max of 28 grains goes 1831 fps. Man, that's a lot of Unique.

Mike,
Lyman 45th Edition:
.460 Wby
552 gr Cast w/gc
20-28 gr Unique
1150fps-1396fps
.378 Wby
249 gr Cast
25-29 gr Unique
1760fps-1904fps
267 gr Cast w/gc
24-28 gr Unique
1685fps-1831fps
That is the only powder listed for Cast Bullets, other powders are listed for j-bullets.
Hope this helps,
Jon

Thanks again.
Was there an earlier manual than 1973. I had my first 460 about 1973 or so but can't remember when I had the Lyman manual. I may have looked at data for 375 H&H or whatever, where Unique, Green Dot, Hi Scor 700X were listed and then extrapolated the percentage difference in loads across to the 460.

I have the 44th edition, copyright 1967, it lists the same loads as the 45th edition mentioned above, or I should say the 45th copies the 44th.

Just for the heck of it I checked my Lyman handbook from 1952 and, surprise, surprise, it lists no Weatherbys at all!

The 460 was introduced around 1956 or so, just after the 458. The 378 was around 1953 and prior to the Mark V action.
As a side note, I often wonder where all these odd ball or exotic calibres go. I think Wby made about 2000 378s prior to the introduction of the Mark V.
I am friends with the people who import Hornady bullets to Australia and I am amazed each time I see a new shipment of bullets arrive and all the boxes and boxes of 375 and 458 projectiles.
