I sent a 44 mag lowwall off to a 'smith to be rechambered and rebored to 50AE. &nbsp; While the barrel was in Mr. Dick Nickel's shop, he unexpectedly and unfortunally passed away. &nbsp; My 'smith, after about 6 months, found someone else to do the rebore. &nbsp; This gentleman did an excellent job - no tight or loose areas, and very smooth when looked into with &nbsp;a borescope. &nbsp; One problem- he rebored it to .510 (the usual "50" caliber) instead of the correct .500 for the 50AE. &nbsp; Can my RCBS mould be "opened" slightly to cast larger? &nbsp;Does anyone make a .510 &nbsp;that will cast a 300 to 400gr useful in a 50AE? &nbsp; Will the round chamber with a .510 bullet seated? &nbsp;(Speer gold dot 325 jacketed when "bumped up" with max loads of H-110 stablize out to 100yds- so I can at least use the barrel. &nbsp; My .501 Rcbs 350gr cast are end over end at 25. <!--emo&:(--><img src="http://beartoothbullets.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('><!--endemo--> ) &nbsp;Any help is appreciated!

Ouch. *My sympathies. *You indeed have a problem. *Seating .510 bullets in the .50 AE case will most likely require the chamber to be opened up - and that opens a whole different can of worms. *End result would probably be a lot of split cases. *Not good. *I don't know that anybody sells .50AE barrel liners, but that might be worth investigating. *I think the best solution at this point would be to have the rifle rechambered to .500 Linebaugh or a shorter version thereof. *Not quite what you were originally after (and brass isn't the least bit cheap, I can tell you! ) but it would be the best working solution at this point.
As for moulds of the correct size, Ballisticast offers 4 different LFN and WFN designs, which can be cut for lighter weights if desired.
Good shooting

I'd certainly consider the 50-70Gov't for a rechamber. Brass is available.

Thanks for the replys guys. &nbsp;I know a .510 won't chamber - I opened up a case to see. &nbsp;I don't know if a lowwall will chamber &nbsp;a round with the rim size of a 50-70 (or a 500 Limbaugh). Doubt it really. &nbsp;I may have to give up on the idea of cast bullets and settle for the jacketed Speer(and 3-4" groups) &nbsp;or spring for a rebarrel.

Hillbilly Hunter, *sorry to hear of your dilemma. The chambers could be opened up to the proper diameter so that the .510 bullets will fit. *Another option would be to reduce the case neck thickness *slightly so that a .510 bullet will chamber.

How about a hollow base .500 diameter bullet? That would probably work, *but would require another mold.

As for machining your mold to the proper diameter, you could take it to a machine shop to see what the cost would be. *Better yet, if you know someone with a lathe ...........

You could bump the bullets from the mold you have easily enough. I bump bullets .007" for my .44 W.C.F. because it has a larger than normal bore. Accuracy is very good with them at 1250 f.p.s.

I made an aluminum rod to fit inside a fired cartridge case. The rod is a few thousands under the inside case diameter and its length extends *from the bottom of the case to *the base of the bullet at its normal seating depth. I put the case / rod / undersized bullet into the bullet seating die. *The seating die punch can then be adjusted to give the right amount of bullet upset. *

This will only work if there is enough room in the seating die / case for expansion to the proper diameter.

Just a thought.

Good Luck,
John
