Had a friend give me a model 94 chambered in 32 special , made in 1968 i believe .Serial # is 3093XXX , so is just a guess as to age . Just wondering if anyone knows much about this particular model/chambering . Am curious as to approximate value ( it's in nice shape , stock is mint , but there is a little pittingon top of the barrel .) . Am also curious about the history of that particular round .

1968 looks right.

The .32 Special is a necked-up .30-30, introduced in 1895 or 1902. Factory ballistics are a 170 grain bullet at 2250 fps, 50 fps faster than a .30-30. It's origins are murky enough that it start agruments.

The first 32 Special was shipped by Winchester in March of 1902. Documented by factory records.

As Jack Monteith says the reasons for its origin are murky. It was not a black powder round but guns were made with a slow barrel twist that would lend itself to black powder use.
