Does anybody have any recommendations on places to hunt or people to contact for pig hunting around the Van Horn, Fort Stockton, Texas area? Having no info about the area I have no idea where to start looking.
Thanks!
Pretty dry country in that area - probably find lots of javelina, but not sure of feral hogs.

I was in Alpine Texas Monday thru Wednesday and saw three roadkill javalinas, and nearly ran over a herd of live ones but I don't think the desert valley and the Davis Montains have the necessary ingredience for feral pigs.

As far as I know, there are few if any hogs around Fort Stockton, not sure about Van Horn. I have heard reports that there are quite a few hogs over around Pecos. Around the river and stockyards areas. Most of that part of Texas is too dry for Feral Hogs.

Check around Marfa. That country has had two and three times the normal rain for the last five years. Have heard stories of a hog problem. Supposed to get an invite thru a friend later this year. No further details yet.

There is/was an outfitter named "York" in the Ft. Davis area for years but I did a google search and couldn't come up with anything. May be he passed on. I think I would contact gun shops in Marfa, Ft. Davis, and Alpine (I'm not sure if there are any of those left any more as I don't pay attention when I've been through those towns). Next, contact the business that process wild game. I've found some cheap antelope permits through these two sources particularly at the end of the season.
I hunt on a place that straddles 90 between Marathon and Alpine. As you cut through the pass about half way between the two towns, those mountains to the South are full of feral hogs. Also a huge population of black bear and native elk. In the Big Bend area javelina are found on the desert floor and the feral hogs at the highest elevations. There are a lot of springs flowing in this country and it really isn't as dry as it looks from the highway. Unfortunately this ranch doesn't offer much hunting access and for those of us that have it we pay dearly.
mcg, there is a friend of mine who does hog hunts in the Glass Mountains, on the Esclera Ranch. He is out of Ft. Stockton and there is another guy that just started hog hunts, just NE of the Pecan orchards, at Belding farms. I will see if I can find both the web sites, and pass them on to you, if your interested.
