View Full Version : Stuck
Hi, I recieved my 336 about 5 years ago and it never gave me any problems until recently. I brought it out of storage and fired a few practice rounds, and on maybe the 4th or 5th reload, the lever locks at the bottom and won't budge. I tried wd-40 to loosen it but it's just not happening. I've never seen something like this and have no idea how to fix it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am far and away no expert with the 336 but I have some questions that may help others get you an answer. Are there rounds still in the mag. If so remove them if possible. Is there a round stuck somewhere in the action or trying to come out of the magazine? If so try to push the round back into the magazine and then close. Be careful during these procedings and concentrate on a safe muzzle direction in case of accidental discharge.
As I said , I am not an expert but it sounds like a loading gate problem. It may just be stuck or spring broke. If you have never cleaned out the magazine tube you could have some pretty discusting material in that thing that could have got to a strategic area and gummed up the works.

Check to make sure that all screws are tight (firmly snug), especially the loading gate screw and the forward bottom part of the receiver.

True, my loading gate gets stuck on the carrier if it isn't out all the way, the only way to fix it is to take the lever out, or pry the gate out. But prying may damage the receiver. Make sure there isn't any debris between the gate and the receiver

I second what Dan 444 says. I had what sound like the same problem with my 336c and after checking all the screws I found several were not tight. This took care of the problem and have had no further problems. You need to check all the screws on your guns periodically.

If there are rounds still in the mag, take them out. Do this by carefully removing the cap retaining screw at the top of the mag plug. Apply a lot of thumb pressure on the top of the cap as you remove the screw. The cap will want to shoot out as its under a fair amount of tension depending on how many rounds are in the tube. Carefully let up on the cap and SLOWLY allow the spring to come out. Keep your hands wrapped around it as it comes out. Don’t let it get away from ya. Once the tension is off the spring, remove it from the mag. Point the barrel to the floor and the tube follower and any rounds should slide out. At this point, you should be able to close the bolt, as there shouldn’t be any obstructions to keep the gun from cycling. Once the bolt is closed, replace the follower, spring and cap. I’ve ran into this feeding problem on a number of occasions. It almost always caused by not fully actuating the lever its full stroke. I also agree with all the other posters as loose screws can case all whole bucketfull of grief.

Had the same problem with my son's gun. When I examined the gun closely I found the screw which holds the "loading Spring" was loose. #46 in the owner's manual
