I am in the Market for a rimfire rifle and wanted to see if there were any suggestions. I live in Missouri and would spend most of my time ; plinking, squirel hunting, and coyote hunting. I already have a .22 so my delima falls between a .17 HMR and a .22 Mag. P.S. I shoot left handed so I only can choose from a few models. I've been told the .17 is too much for what I want to do but the cost is comaparable to that of a .22 mag so I'm just really not sure. I've really narrowed it down to a Savage and the new CZ 452. Any input would be great.

Due to your quest for the wiley coyote, I would go with a .22 Mag. And keep my shots under 75 yards.(Just my opinion)
I have five CZ 452's and think highly of them. But either a Savage or the CZ would suit your needs.

I would assume you are happy with your CZ's, since you have five of them. Is there anything I should beware of with them. Is the trigger adjustable on your CZ's?

I'm very happy with the CZ's. Very good accuracy right out of the box.
The trigger is easily adjustable from the factory or there are other options readily available, depending on how much additional money you want to spend and how much you enjoy tinkering. ;) My most recent CZ is a Silhouette model in .22LR with a crisp 2.75# trigger out of the box.
Many of the CZ's require a bit of opening up the barrel channel in the stock. But if you go with the CZ, shoot a few hundred rounds before you sand out the stock. Some of the CZ's shoot more accurately without any stock work.

Welcome to the forum fordboy_04. Rules are simple, be nice and join in.
I shoot a 22 lr CZ 452 with one of Erick Brooks 14 buck trigger kits. Trigger breaks at 1.5 pounds and accuracy is only second to my old Win 52 target gun. Don't know where your located but check out this site for good prices.

I also just aquired a CZ 527 Varmit in 204 Ruger and am really pleased with it. It has the wonderful single set trigger that now is available on the rimfire CZ's also.

If you plan on recovering the coyotes, I'd go with the .22mag also, if you're just ending thier destruction of your livestock, the .22LR will give them a mortal wound out to 100yds but usually you won't find them but the buzzards seem to locate them quite easily the next day.
.17's are pricy for plinking, not something that really impresses me any, for the cost & performance, I think the hornet is a far better choice.
I don't know if you're set on anything specific but Izhevsky has a nice break open in .22mag. Haven't seen one in person yet but a friend got one a few months ago and loves it. He reports it's very accurate but he did work the trigger to his liking (not sure what he did with it). Here's a link http://www.baikalinc.ru/en/company/34.html

I really appreciate yalls advice. I noticed cz doesn't make a left handed .22 mag. What do you think my best options would be for the .22 mag? I looked at a savage and they have a seemingly nice LH bolt action. It also has their new Accu-Trigger. Does anyone know anything about that?
From what I've been told by a few friends over the last few days and what I've heard here, the .22 mag is the way to go. How much difference is there between the .22LR and the .22Mag. And is it a justifiable upgrade if I already own a .22LR?

The new Savages with the accu-trigger are good guns, I prefer the CZ's though. Got to say if your planning on shooting yotes you might want to think centerfire rather than any rimfires. If you plan on shooting coyotes at close range a 12 gauge shotgun with large shot and a tight choke works much better than a rimfire.
I've seen several yotes shot with 22 mags and they just kept going. I wouldn't doubt they may have died later, but it's not a good way to shoot animals.
You'd have to at least limit ranges on yotes to well under a 75 yards with a 22 mag. A 22 long rifle is not what you would want to shoot coyotes with.
For the last few years I've been using a 243 for yotes, loaded with Nosler 55 grain bullets at just under 4000 fps. This year I bought a CZ 452 Varmit in 204 Ruger.
I've got several friends whom are wacking coyotes with them with pretty good results. The new 204 Ruger shoots 32 grain bullets at 4200 plus fps and give good coyote kills out to 300 yards.
I've been kinda under the weather for most of this year, but plan on getting out and calling yotes most of the winter. I've been calling and shooting yotes since 1962 or so and got to say a rimfire is not a good way to go.

I do agree a center fire is a much better choice for Coyotes, but if the area you live in restricts you to .22 rimfire the .22 mag is the way to go. I use a Browning A-bolt (Said restrictions) .22 mag w/ a nice Burris 3x9 42mm scope. CCI Maxi mag HP's work Quite well, and we have some big Coyotes. I would suggest 75 yards or less, you loose to much velousity after that. I would suggest head shots also. JP

I can agree with that, OOB does good but a 1oz slug to the brown bullseye at 40 yds while one is running away is quite an impressive impact.

I like my CZ452 all except the bassackward safety, forward "safe" and back to "fire", just seems wrong.

I have the CZ 452 Varminter in .22LR, and I got the factory trigger to 12oz. by only changing out the spring. It passes all the safety checks. It is an awsome rifle.
