That is one sharp lookin' rifle! Not to mention that it probably only puts one hole in your target after many rounds. Be careful if your in an indoor range, I've read of ventilation problems up there.

Nice job Doug. The young fella that lives next door built one and if you have any feeding problems in a target chamber a 45 degree chamfer at the mouth of the chamber will cure most feeding problems. You need just take a touch off.

Thanks guys, this rifle is going to be a keeper.

22only,
Yep, I'm aware of the indoor range problem. I'm a range officer at one of the ranges with problems. We've recently received a grant from the State of Alaska to upgrade our air-handling and exhaust system. We had to discontinue our youth program until the repairs are made. The future looks bright and we have also started construction of an ajoining outdoor range.

faucettb,
I've put around 150 rounds through the rifle. While in the process of putting the rifle together, I had some concerns about feeding because of the Bentz chamber but so far so good. I also had Randy at CPC do the bolt mods. I haven't heard of any problems with Whistle Pig barrels or chambering with these barrels. I appreciate your feedback and if I experience problems in the future, I'll have my smith look at doing the mouth chamfer mod.

Thanks,
Doug in AK

Looks as good as it shoots. What was the distance? Just curious. Have a Merry Christmas. Sliceandacoke

Very nice...

I like the use of the fresh snow for a back drop too... I'm jealous. (both of the rifle and the snow)

I'll keep the rifle, you can have the snow! Danged snowshoe hares are almost impossible to see when the ground is white!

True, but at least ptarmigan will fly and then you can see them. Gotta figure out how to get them bunnies to grow wings so I can flush them up and shoot 'em in the air!!! :D

Nice build eh... i picked up a new 10/22 last weekend.. my first... now i have to wrestle with the... what to do to it scenario.. soooo many options... soooo little cash.

Actually mine is the deluxe sporter with walnut... i like it as is but pretty much have reconciled myself to aftermarket trigger group, doing some bolt work and the obligatory extended mag release and improved bolt release.. aside from that... i REALLY want to go with a 20" GM fluted sporter BUT i also want to retain open sights and all of the aftermarket barrels i've seen are clean... therefore i'd be forced to band it or cut a dovetail i reckon... I do like the Tech-Sights setup for a peep...

Doug,
Nice rifle. :D I just finished my first build, too.

I went for the 17HM2 conversion and ended up with the following:

Aluma-Lite barrel
B&C Premiere Thumbhole stock
Randy @ CPC heavy bolt
VQ Bolt handle
Joe Wilsom customized trigger group
Polymer bolt buffer
Power custom mount
Weaver Quad rings
Clearidge RM Ultra 3-9X40AO scope

I've still got a few things I want to do with it to peak and tweak, but it shoots pretty darn good from the time I got it sighted in.

I ended up with enough spare parts to build another 10/22. Just need another barrel and receiver. I'm sure YoungSon will talk me into it. :D
Regards,
Rich

Thanks guys, sounds like both of you have very nice builds in the process!

JARoot,
Have you bought the extended mag release yet? Do you plan to buy a custom trigger group that includes this part? If not, I have an extra that came with my Hornet Custom trigger group. I'd be glad to send it to you if you think you might use it. Might cost you a self addressed shipping envelope but that's about it. Send me a PM if you want it, it's never been used.
