Hi,

New user here. I've always wanted a lever gun and finally bought a used Ranger 30-30 yesterday. A couple of questions to help a noob out please.

First, I was trying to date the gun. It's a top eject with a 62598XX serial number. Is this early '80's?

Secondly and more importantly. I was in a hurry when inspecting it at the seller's home and also the light may have been bad. I meant to bring my flashlight. When looking at the bore, there is something that looks like a chip out of the the 1 o'clock to 3 o'clock position. Is this normal?

I the picture I see some surface rust that I didn't notice in the low light. I guess this gun was in a cabin for many years and not used. Hopefully I didn't make a bad buy.

Thanks for you help in advance.

The "chip" is normal for an angle eject rifle. That is where the extractor fits when the bolt is closed. It looks like you bought an Angle Eject model and not top eject. The rifle looks good to me! Can't help with the age.

Thanks, I incorrectly assumed it was a top eject. I can't wait to get back home after Christmas and shoot it.
