I've got a Winchester 1895 in 30/06. It is fitted with the factory supplied iron sights (buckhorn rear, bead front) the rifle is only a toy and is used only occassionaly on the range in the odd competition. I suppose it is fair to say that the only reason I own it is because I just can't sleep at night without having an 1985 in the safe. Anyway this is my problem, the eyes are getting a little bit older, and I just can't see that rear sight clearly all the time. So I'm looking for a peep sight to fit it. Not just any peep sight but something that will suit the style of the rifle and the period when they were first made. What ever I put on her I want it to look as if it belongs. The Win 1895 has class and I just couldn't bring myself to put something on her that cheapened the rifle in any way.
Has anyone got any ideas?

Rod I dont know if it will fit your idea of whether it belongs or not as that is a personal call but I have seen a picture of one of the rifles that Ed Stevenson ( A very able big bear guide from what I gather ) and it is a 1895 with an ashle rear sight on it and looks very trim and like it belongs
i}n my opinion}
