Hi everyone. This is my first post. I was wondering if anyone can tell me where the best place to buy a new or used '94 legacy rifle would be? I don't really know a whole lot about them, just looking to hang a working model over the mantle for possible future hunting. An antique in nice condition would be the ultimate, are any available?
I like the M1866 rifle as well. Does anyone know if these are available anymore in working order? Also, are there any performance variables between the two, as in one is much better when hunting than the other?
If anyone has any preferences for old west rifles like these which they prefer, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

I don't know how many of the Legacy rifles were made, but there should be some around.
As for original older ones, they are available too, I see them on websites and auctions all the time. Comparing older 1894's with older 1866's, they are vastly different. An original 1866 is going to cost a lot of money and might even be a rimfire 44 chambering. A copy made recently will fire 44-40 or 45Colt so you can use it easier.
I think the 1873 was a stronger rifle, and the 1892 of course.
I like the 1876 and the 1886 for originals, they come in some bigger calibres.
But for hunting, the 1894 and the 1866 compared, the 1894 is going to be a lot easier to hunt with, depends on calibre.
I know I can shoot and hit a lot further out with my original 1894 in .30WCF than I could with an original 1866 with a black powder pistol round.(but I still would use one, I love the old rifles)

Welcome to the forum.
If you want a new rifle, head down to the gun shop and have them order you one.
Best bet for any out of production item is to cruise the gunshops, gun shows, and gun auction sites till you find what you want.
The search is half the fun....

The quickest (and most expensive) place to find one is at Gunbroker.com. Winchesters are pulling premium prices these days though so be prepared for some sticker shock. All the best!

Check the pawn shops, still a bunch of older 94's around. You might also consider some of the Marlins, they are dandy lever actions also.

Thanks a lot for the information. I really appreciate it. I've done a little further research (amazing the data available out there) and see the M1866's cost 20 grand for a medium grade rifle. Wow. It doesn't really surprise me, as I collect WW2 memorabilia. Still, these prices are heady. If you know of any more websites which are selling antique rifles, please let me know. I prefer to get the most bang for my buck you could say. Pun intended. Thanks again!
