Welcome to the forum codfish. Rules are simple, be nice and join in.

As for your question on the Stevens 200, yes it is a good rifle for the money. They are a no frills, no accu-trigger Savage 110 with the least expensive finish and least expensive plastic stock rifle on the market. They compare to the Mossberg ATR rifle in fit and finish, but I believe are a better rifle than the Mossberg.

They are functional and as accurate as all the bottom line Savages having very acceptable accuracy for an out of the box rifle.

If you will look at the bottom of this page you'll find simular threads to your question that will give you some more answers to your question.

+1 on the thumbs up for the Stevens 200. I have two of them, a 243 and a 7mm-08, and both are great shooters.

Best price around here is $259 at Sportsmans Warehouse

Walmart has them for $279

I picked one up for $199 at Bass pro last year. They had a special going on .270s and .30-06s for a week at that price. I got the .30-06. Big mistake...I should have got one of each at that price! I thought they would be cheap lower quality arms at that price. Wrong.

Put it this way, after polishing the sear a bit and working up some handloads, I printed a legitimate dime sized group at 115 yds on my 3rd trip out. One little ragged hole. Now you'd be hard pressed to beat that with a $1,999 rifle, much less $199.

This was my first Savage made gun. I had heard a lot of hub-bub about how accurate Savage rifles were and never paid it much mind. Now I am a believer.
