Anyone had any experience with the 270wsm and how much recoil should I expect in comparison to a 257 roberts or a 270 with boss.

More, how much depends on all the things you plug into the recoil calculator that is available on this web site. Check it out you will need bullet weight, powder charge in grains, bullet velocity, and rifle weights . It sure does beat trying to do it with a hand held calculator. Happy shooting. Hard Cast

Welcome to the forum skeeternc. Rules are simple, be nice and join in.

Like Hard Cast said recoil is dependent upon a bunch of variables. weight of your rifle, weight and velocity of the projectile, amount of drop in the stock, how many square inchs of recoil pad there are, the design of the stock and more.

You can run up the recoil calculator and it will give you some comparitive figures, but for a ball park I'd say it's going to be in the 30-06 range.

If you are recoil sensitive you might consider some of the things you can do to lessen felt recoil. One of the new recoil pads like the limbsaver does wonders, so does using a strap on pad like the Past Magnum. The use of a recoiling reducing rifle holder such as the lead sled on the range makes a difference between a long day at the range and a great day at the range experience. Use of a muzzle brake or having your barrel magna-ported can drop recoil from 20 to 40 percent.

All in all recoil can be managed in many different ways so the selection of the caliber/cartridge with the performance level you want shouldn't be dependent upon how much recoil you can stand, but what you can do to mitigate the recoil of that particular cartridge you want to shoot.
