You're going to have fun with that big rifle.
I'd not exceed the manufactures max of 120grs. Doubt anything will come loose at 150, but it's never a good idea to just ignore the suggested max....besides, that big rifle won't be a long range shooter no matter how much powder you ram down her, so may as well play in the 90-120gr. range looking for an accuracy sweet-spot.
MR. Gates postes here often, and he's proably had customers that have used his slugs in those rifles; I'd not use the foster's slugs as they tend to perform poorer than round ball.

Thank you for the info. I will look forward to any posts MR. Gates gives me. R U by any chance from out west? It seems most of my information on my big bore guns comes from out there :D :D

Nope..from New orleans area.
The man I bought a 10ga. SXS percussion from wanted to buy one of your rifles, so i helped fun the project by buying his shotgun. We kind of swapped loading echniques s he worked with his big rifle.
His tests and range reports made a pertty good argument for that big round ball pushed along with 110gr of FFg. I'd been getting good results in the smooth bore with Fg, but lost track on him before finding out if he ever tried any Fg loads.

Think I got hooked on BP by way of a college professor with two brown bess muskets...one original and one a reproduction (although he'd occasionaly shoot the original). This is pretty much an 11ga. smoothbore, but limited in powder burning (is also a long clubby gun to be running around the woods with). Big ball wasn't moving fast...didn't seem to need to.
His omment was, "If the ball is big enough to hurt when you drop it on your foot, it really doesn't have to be pushed all that hard out the barrel." Seems resoanble advice.

I've never shot one of these, but picked on up everytime I stopped at Cabela's in Nebraska. I could just picture myself in Africa looking for elephants.
What a cannon, your going to have fun with that. I'd suggest you get a round ball mold. It'd be worth using a range with a good backstop and recycle the lead where your lobbing that much down range every time you pull the tirgger.

Yes, we have a 600 gr. hollow base truncated cone nose conical designed for the Pedersoli 72. It is cast from pure lead and Alox lubed. It has been tested in Italy and here. The length is designed to stbilize in the gun's round ball twist. The twist is not fast enough tp stabilize the sabot load some people want to play with. For further details, contact me at jcgates@bellsouth.net or dixieslugs.com
