A new set for my 1984 arrived today.

I've been looking for something like this and stumbled across a reference in a post by another member.

I think I'm really going to like this set.

I look forward to reading of your experiences with the Skinner sight. You will note you paid considerably less than I did for an XS sight!

Keep us posted on your shooting.

They are sturdy and I'm impressed with the quality.

The previous sight was a Lyman 66 LA. I wanted one that was more stout and I'm sure the Skinner will be. The Lyman would be adequate for my needs but I like the extra insurance.

The holes were precise. The hex/allen head mounting screws were cut off from longer ones and I had to dress up the first thread to get them started easily. A couple of minutes with a needle file, no big deal.

The front sights are precisely machined and the dove tail appears more precise than what is cut into the 1894's ramp. Also, I purchased an extra front at .075" width, standard is .050" as stated on the web page. Height was precisely .375" as stated on the web site.

Can't wait to get to the range to test them out.

edit: I should mention that the front sights's dovetail does not fill the whole width of the dovtail cut in the ramp. Added another set of pics, these are clearer.

That is a good looking sight. I may buy one for a 1894 marlin. I have a XS sight on one but as slim pointed out they are expensive. I could buy 2 skinner sights for the price of a XS. Looking forward to a range report.

I think I will order one of those. It's a good looking sight and a very attractive price.

Do you need to change out the front sight with the Skinner rear or can you continue to use the Marlin original (model 1894)?

Thanks

The reason I purchased a skinner front sight (actually two) was because I wanted a thicker front blade. Plus the price seemed very reasonable.

I recall reading a post where the poster said the stock front sight worked just fine. I wish I could tell you for sure but I have not had a chance to get out to test it.

A few things to note: The skinner front sight is quite a bit taller than the stock sight. The skinner rear peep sits up higher than the Lyman peep that I previously had mounted. And the Lyman worked fine with my stock front sight. So I think taller skinner front sight will be close but possibly need some filing as noted on his web site.

I know that doesn't help much but that's the best I can come up with until I actually get to test it.

I have become partial to the tang mounted peep sight. You gain several more inches on sight radius , it folds out of the way when not in use and is almost infinitely adjustable for elevation (5 to 300+ yards). I have a Lyman #2 on a 30AW .30-30 that is pretty good and a Marbles on my 1894CP that is actually has clicks for elevation and windage.
