I have recently started doing some varmit shooting and found out that 5.56NATO has a higher chamber press than a 223Rem. Is this also the case for the 308/7.62?? Is it b/c the NATO rounds are military?? Will 7.62 damage my 308win?

I tried some 1980 surplus Isralie 7.62 x 51 ammo in my .308 BLR and had difficulty opening the bolt. I will never use it again. I had to cycle the action like I did when I was a kid cocking my Daisy "Red Ryder" BB gun; gun butt on the ground, left hand holding barrel, right hand cocking gun.

It didn't bother the BLR because shortly thereafter I shot a 3 shot 100 yard group of just under 1" with the Federal Premium Vital-Shok 150 grain Nosler Solid Base bullet.
