Hi all, first post here. I been snooping around this site for a bit, looks like a lot of very good info and knowledgable people here.

I have a quick question regarding a 9422 my dad bought for me when I was 9 or 10. It is in dire need of a re-blue do to rust (was packed in the rain alot when I was a kid and I didn't take care of it as I should.)

It also developed some type of feeding issue. The rounds would get cocked to one side of the chamber as they were trying to feed. If you manipulated the action very slow, they would feed OK, but otherwise thet would would not.

I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of a reputable smith that could fix the feeding issue and re-blue the rifle for me. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Jess

Welcome to the forum coltjester. Rules are simple, be nice and join in.

Can't help you with a gunsmith as I'm not aquaited with that area. If the action is steel it can be reblued if it's aluminum then there are other coatings that can be put on it. If you just get the feeding repaired and do not want to invest in a bunch of money refinishing there are several good spray on bake on finishes that Brownell's offers.

Anyone know a good smith they'd trust with their 94?

You could try contacting winchster through

http://www.winchesterguns.com/index.asp

Saw in another post that despite the plant being closed they are continuing to support and repair. This wouldn't be warrenty work (atleast the re-blue wouldn' t be) but I'd think that they would be capable of doing it right..

best o luck

Welcome to the site. I'd suggest one of the gun auction sites like GunsAmerical, AuctionArms, etc.

I wouldn't post the serial number publicly, and I'm going to XX out the last two digits for you.

I'm no gunsmith either but based on what you are saying about rust I'll guess that has something to do with your feeding problems. I suggest you take the gun down as far as you are comfortable, give it a good cleaning, and then try to load some ammo. Pay particular attention to getting the rust etc. out of the the magazine interior and the carrier/cartridge stop assembly. Make sure the follower and the carrier move smoothly, and that there is no rust in the chamber or on the feed ramp. See the attached picture.

If you aren't comfortable getting into those areas take it to someone who is. If you are getting it reblued whoever does that will have to clean up all of those areas anyway. Good luck, and keep up on that maintenance.
