Over the summer I purchased a SRH 454 Casull. I am wanting to take the pistol deer hunting in the fall of 2007. I am wondering about which brand and magnification of scope would be best for shots under 70 yards.
Most of the time I figure on shooting the pistol using 45 Colt handloads instead of the Casull variety to reduce recoil.
I am dont know enough about some of the brands ability to handle the recoil generated by the pistol. On my rifle I only run Leupold scopes but am open to other brands if they will serve me as well.

Welcome to the forum NHotWater. Rules are simple, be nice and join in.
I've been thru the scope thing and found that an aimpoint red dot with the smallest dot they offer worked much better for me. Six inch groups at 75 yards were not uncommon. This sight has a one or two minute dot.
Here's the setup I used. The Aimpoints are slightly on the expensive side, but the one on this Redhawk had a couple thousand rounds thru it with not problems.

I have a tasco propoint PDP2, on my RSH 454. And it works fine. Have shot several hundred rounds with it on and never had any problems. I have a simmons red dot with the 4 different reticles on my smith 460 and it is holding up quite well too so far.

I used a Leupold 2x on my 45 colt with Ruger only loads. It will stand to to abuse as evidenced when it struck my head after I shot while on its way to touch down 5 yards behind me. Oh by the way, get some really good mounts for the handgun unless you want to dodge that scope after you touch off a hot load. I still use that scope but not the mount.

Thanks for the advice to try a red dot system instead of the standard optical scope. I will do some research into those and try to make it to a local gunshop to view one as well.
