Just heard over at the longrangehunting forum, that smith and wesson will unveil a new bolt action rifle at the SHOT show. The info came from a guy that was heavily involved in the design of the new thompson center icon, so im sure it is pretty accurate info. No details are available yet, but he says they are supposed to be super accurate rifles. Looks like smith and wesson and thompson center are jumping into the bolt action market big time, with both companies introducing rifles. Hopefully there will be more news soon. I believe gunblast.com is supposed to be at the show, and will be updating their website every night with pictures and news from the show.

The new thompson bolt looks interesting. I understand that the first year production is going to have some extremly nice wood that Thompson has been storing for some time.

I'm about gunned out so I probably won't be buying anymore rifles, but it's nice to see some new rifles being offered.

I agree, I just picked up the new guns and ammo, which has the Icon on the cover. There are some great pictures in the article, and let me tell you, for a suggested retail of $799.00, it is a beautiful rifle. Very classic lines, and supposed to be factory guaranteed to shoot MOA or better. I cant help but think that the new Smith and Wesson bolt guns will be either much more expensive, or much cheaper, so they wont compete directly with the Icon. Time will tell I suppose. It is an exciting time to be a gun nut.

From the picture the Icon looks like a Sauer 90. Pretty little thing. Hope the action is as slick as a Sauers!

S&Ws last foray into bolt action CF rifles was with a Howa built 1500. Very accurate guns. They had a bit of a problem with weak mainsprings, which caused some misfires. It will be interesting to see if the new ones are built in Japan as well, or Europe.
