I have a Marlin 917 that I'm having problems with and want to know if anyone else is experincing the same problem. The firing pin will dent the rim of the case but it will not fire. This happens on average 3 times out of seven in the clip. I can sometimes spin the bullet and it will fire. I've tried all ammo from CCI to Hornady and federal with the same results.

We have a blue 917 and I don’t believe we have had a miss-fore with any ammunition. Has your rifle had this problem from new? It could be preservative or other grease in the bolt assy.
Where did you buy your ammo?

Welcome to the forum.
I'd suggest cleaning out the bolt. A can of brake cleaner works wonders.... use outside, with the bolt out of the rifle, of course. Try not to breath any.
I doubt if it's bad ammo, if it's happening with several different brands.

Clean it. If that doesn't help, call Marlin.

I took it to a gun smith and he did just that and i worked for 2 clips then back to the same old same old. i may soak the bolt in solvent for a day. i am not good enough to try to disassemble the bolt but that may be next.
Thanks for the welcome. this is my first try and its working. my son is and IT and he would be proud because i just learned how to get on the net last week.

I tried calling Marlin but they don't answer the phone. I could take it back to Carter country where i bought it but thats a 2 hour trip and I'll do anything not to drive to Houston.
